Methanol

Post by andyg72 » Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:02 am

I haven’t posted much here in recent times so here is a up date on mine ..

Some of you know I sold my lovely phantom black RS4 18 months ago but only to jump into a Daytona RS4 :)

As the latest one was APR charged I’ve done a few things since I owned it to get it where I want it

It was already in good condition so paint correction wasn’t really in the list of things to do So I’ve just kept on top of that

I had a little issue with brake Judder which surprised me as there tarox I’ll be honest tarox have been a little slow helping but we’re getting there with the help of midland vw

So in the meantime I had them skimmed & that’s sorted that but I want to change the disc design
So opted for the D95 design

The come but I wasn’t happy with pattern match front to rear as you will see from the pics so there back with tarox and I await the new ones

Other niggle I wanted to address is the well known intake temps APR suffer from although not so much on my kit as it’s the earlier kit

So the car was took for logging intake temps And temps of 70 degrees were seen on maximum throttle obviously not the best

I wanted this sorted
My options were the chiller killer or methanol injection

My choice was The AEM kit as it seems to me the best kit out there
Fully controlled by the user

Once fitted with the 500cc nozzle all was good then decided to fit the 1000cc nozzle
Much better car ran well

Logged intake temps and again on maximum throttle time after time max temps seen was 51 degrees so very happy with that
That alone will give more power safley and the added octane from the meth will add more too :)

I haven’t mapped the meth it will stay on the apr mapping

I’m alway looking for more information on this kind of thing so any input from other members would be appreciated.

Could the carbon air box be contributing to the higher inlet temperatures?

Possibly but I have cold air feed and the 100mm hose is located direct to cone filter

I checked the intake temps on mine when I had the carbon intake. With the 89mm cold air feed it did suffer a little but when I swapped it for a 102mm hose it made a big difference and kept temps down. Mine was not supercharged of course.

Yes 102mm is what I have mike :)

Definitely helps but meth makes a massive difference

You had it on dyno to see if there’s much difference?
Mines going on later this month so I can see what killer chiller does & cold air feed
Previously big turbo'd mk4 golf, big turbo'd Audi A3 Quattro
Currently remapped vw caddy
& 2009 rs4 saloon, TTS supercharged, mrc mapped, miltek catback, kwv3, h&r arbs, gutted precats, ceramic brakes 610bhp 👍

I haven’t as yet Matt
I had it on mrc’s rollers last year but now have different rolling road installed so will be trying to get back there soon ....

How are you getting on with the killer chiller ?

I haven’t driven car much but the chiller works well. Coolent hose that was hot before is now cold. I’ll find out more in a few weeks...
Be good to get a dyno day at mrc again
