Headlight washers

Post by SimonS4MTM » Wed Dec 20, 2017 9:49 pm

So it appears my headlight washers do not work. Not worked since I got the car in April - yes I have only recently tried them.

I can't hear the pump working so I am assuming the problem is either with the pump, or with Vagcom coding. I have checked the coding tonight, and I am a little confused.

Vagcom says that the standard coding is 115. It turns out my coding is 114. I have tried a coding of 114+32 and 115+32 and still no headlight washer activation. Also what is odd is that my rear wiper works when in reverse which also does not tally up with the coding value.

So, is the Vagcom coding a red herring and should I not worry about it, or should I check the pump?

Mine had this issue when I got it. I took the bumper off and ran a feed to the pump in the bumper, it didn’t do anything. I gave it a wallop and it started working. Go through it methodically.

Unlikely the coding is incorrect.

Fixed my headlight washers recently. Had to replace pump which had corroded. Pump sits on passenger side in front of wheel arch. There is two pumps on washer reservoir; one for headlight and other for windscreen. Take the wheel arch liner off and see if any corrosion on pump and check pump operation from there.

So no need to remove front number to change the pump then?

If the headlights are on an they are still not working, yes you will need to remove the bumper an have a look, ( this is how i done mine)
I also needed to replace the pump for them as mine had seized,
