Hydrogen carbon clean
Anyone actually tried this and have any views to offer? I must say I am skeptical.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
I had it done. It definitely felt smoother at low revs but this may have been due to the fact that past if the clean involves them revving the nuts off it so basically like an Italian tune.
I used my tablet to note the mass air flow which relates to power output and didn't notice any gains.
Faisal did a more comprehensive test. Think he dynod before and after and said it made no difference. Or possibly took the head off and it was still dirty. Something like that.

Covered in extensive detail
Search the forum for "EngineCarbonClean"
Short version
- Yes there was a small (13hp) power increase, and the car felt a bit smoother
- This is likely due to the "Italian tune" effect - revving the nuts off the car as Mike said
- After the manifold was pulled, it was still full of carbon. A proper MRC manual clean yielded another 44hp

Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
I had terraclean in my garage last week trying to force me to take on the machines, the new promo vid coming out is of them cleaning an rs4 but when i pushed for a before and after pic he quickly changed the conversation, funny that.
Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
Its best done after a regular carbon clean to help keep it clean longer but will not remove sludgey crap that a manual clean will.

Thanks all, just as I thought. A waste of time then.

Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
From looking in to it i think as mentioned above is right, a proper strip down/manual clean and a yearly dose of terraclean or similar may help, but until i get some hard evidence i won't be buying the machine, i asked the rep to offer an rs4 owner the opportunity to have a few free cleans with a strip down a year or so later on to see how it looked inside, IF it worked then I'm sure rs4 owners would be flocking to garages to have it done but he didn't like my idea, thus raising my suspicions even more.
Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
They are talking about hydrogen cleaning here. As far a I can tell Terraclean is not the same hydrogen cleaning... Although I think the end result is similar.Fun and games wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2017 4:41 pmFrom looking in to it i think as mentioned above is right, a proper strip down/manual clean and a yearly dose of terraclean or similar may help, but until i get some hard evidence i won't be buying the machine, i asked the rep to offer an rs4 owner the opportunity to have a few free cleans with a strip down a year or so later on to see how it looked inside, IF it worked then I'm sure rs4 owners would be flocking to garages to have it done but he didn't like my idea, thus raising my suspicions even more.

Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
We've stripped a few after chemical cleaning, but it doesn't fully clean where necessary.
A manual clean will yield best results with a regular chemical treatment to reduce build and extend times between manual cleans.

Terraclean do a separate hydrogen cleaning service now Mike, as well as their fuel system cleanMikeFish wrote:They are talking about hydrogen cleaning here. Re: Hydrogen carbon clean
Know a terraclean agent near me and spoke to him last year about how effective it would be on cleaning carbon out of my RS4. His advice was it would have very little or no effect on a well carboned up engine. Terraclean will only work on smaller build ups so the only way to clean RS4 is manually as there will be large carbon build ups which terraclean can't deal with. It can't clean it properly and there will always be plenty carbon build up left behind.
He believes it might be more effective if used as part of your servicing schedule after it has had deep manual clean.
