Where to buy engine undertray

Post by BillTheButcher » Mon Oct 23, 2017 10:00 pm

I PXed my RS4 last weekend. The dealer sent it to a local specialist for an inspection today. It turns out that the engine undertray is missing. It didn't fall off in the two months that I owned it so I can only assume that the garage who did the last service removed it and forgot to put it back on, or it fell off before that and the previous owner decided not to replace it. The trader's been quoted £350 for an OEM replacement. I've found a non-OEM one on eBay (first picture) but it looks quite different to the OEM one (second picture); in particular the eBay one seems to be missing the two brake duct channels.

TL;DR:
Does anyone know where you can get an OEM engine undertray for the RS4 that costs less than £350?

The A4 under trays were similar to the RS4 version but without the cooling ducts like you said so that eBay one is for the A4 rather than RS.
I think JC weldfab did a metal version but I doubt it was for less than 350. I think Faisal has the 1st one (and maybe only one?).

Thanks, Mike. :)

I'm wondering if that first image is a library shot. Here's the ad in full:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Under- ... 1799591950

If you scroll down you can see a compatibility checker that includes the RS4.

Hmmm, yes the advert clearly states its for an RS4. I never trust those eBay compatability checkers as they are often wrong but the advert states just the RS4 and doesn't even mention the A4. Worth dropping the seller a question for clarity.

Yep I looked at a few of those eBay jobbies when my OEM tray disintegrated - I didn't come across one that had the vents.

The OEM one is crazy expensive for a bit of plastic, and will probably disintegrate in future! So, as Mike mentioned, I had an aluminium one made up by JCWF. I honestly can't remember how much they wanted to charge for one of these, it may be in my old posts, but definitely more than £350...I want to say it was something like £600 (I didn't pay that though).

Perhaps they'll do you a deal if you buy an exhaust too haha. Call it the "Faisal special"

Thanks, both.

The problem I have is that I've already PXed the car so I'm loathe to spend £350 (let alone any more than that) on a part for a car that I no longer own. You might ask why I'm bothering at all if I've already sold the car. The reason is that the dealer has done right by me so far and he's agreed to sort out some wear-and-tear components on the new car that wouldn't be covered by the warranty. It's rare to find a dealer with ethics so I want to do right by him in return.

Aha - gotcha.

Have you looked into a used tray from a breakers yard? I'd think an OEM in reasonable condition would be preferable to a non-OEM one that's not going to connect up to the brake ducts.

Might be a worth a look on eBay if there are any B7'd being broken?

I looked for trays on eBay but not whole cars being broken. Thanks. :)

Two months to the day. The only car I've owned for less time was my 911 996 Turbo. :bash: Apart from the TPMS nonsense the RS4 was faultless. It was a bucket list car for me: I knew I wouldn't be keeping it long. I was offered an excellent PX deal so off it went. :)

But yes, I won't miss the spectre of DRC failure or the fear of other expensive bits breaking (not including the undertray).
