Completely new DRC re-fit question
Completely new DRC re-fit question
Guys,
My car has low mileage (55k miles) but has been stored and also just not driven for quite a while. I've had an independent (none we know but a race prep garage) service the car, there was some noise from the front offside and I had suspected DRC for a while.
They have recommended that, at some point, it gets replaced within a year or so (a couple of shocks have misting - I know that this is common). The car is fine to drive but parts are tired. I want to keep it stock so would like to do all shocks, springs, hoses (bushes, etc) as, if you just do a little then it's just going to have to come back at some point and do the lot.
Am I right in thinking that the valves are £900 EACH?!!?
Can anyone think of what this might all add up to roughly, for a full re-fit or DRC, I know - big job.
Cheers - do I have to remortgage the house and how much are B8 RS4s now, lol!

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
I would suggest that the age and value of the B7 RS4 now it wouldn't be cost effective. Why spent £1000's to possibly have the same trouble in the future ,this can be solved by a coilover kit for £800 .
I think Ive seen on here somewhere shocks alone are £1600 so with everything else ,hoses ,valves ,pump?? Lines + labour you must be looking at 4k plus !!

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
That is my worry to be honest. It's not like any aftermarket DRC was ever made to reduce that cost. I'll see what the bill is going to be I guess - I assume the B8 will have the same issues in the future?

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
yes pipes and shocks not me tho the previous owner. front shocks £204 each pipes £110 each
Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
Yes, as above, the shocks and hoses are about £300 per corner so £1200 for all 4 plus valve (are there any other components that need changing?) plus labour. If you do it all at the same time then it should help minimise cost, and take it to somewhere like Unit20 who know what they are doing and don't charge main dealer labour rates (or the garage you mentioned earlier). That should see you out for the rest of the cars life.
Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
I recently had one rear shock/pipe changed
By unit20 cost £749 all in

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
If you dont want to go for coilovers but are willing to pay the price of drc then air ride would be a better option imo
Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
Why is air ride better than DRC? Pretty sure if he doesn't want to go for coilovers then air ride will be even less desirable.

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
Mine failed at 20K could have been less, I went for Bilsteins and upgraded the bushes to Super pro at the same people, people still treat theses cars a 50k ones when they are where new, whats the point of air ride only looks good when parked up with no air in, and you want to be the envy of 17 year old boy racers
Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
Audi hourly labour cost should be half price with any car over few years old. Half of £113.
That's what they told me a few weeks ago when in for a service

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
Hi, I have just been quoted a worst case scenario to have the DRC replaced by Audi - £3224 without replacing the shocks!
If it ever came to this I would be going down the route of coilovers

Re: Completely new DRC re-fit question
