Spare key fob won't open car via remote

Post by Pistolpete2543 » Tue May 05, 2015 11:52 pm

I need some help. When I bought my RS4 a few months ago, I never checked the spare key fob. When I tried it the other day it wouldn't open the car so I replaced the battery thinking it must be dead. However, it's still not operating to open the doors via the remote. It does open the door using key in the lock and it starts the car ok.

I've tried the guide linked on here to re-programme the remote, but despite many attempts I've had no success.

Is my only other option to take it to a dealer?

If you have access to VCDS you can pair them up that way. I had the same problem trying to add a remote but did it with VCDS in seconds. Even with VCDS is a little weird as you have to allocate each remote to a space on the ECU (maximum of 4).

Although I now have the opposite problem as I haven't had Audi pair the immobiliser so I can open the car but not start it !

Whereabouts are you as meeting someone with VCDS has to be better than paying a dealer ?

Thanks for that. I don't have VCDS and there aren't many around Belfast who do. I'll ask on the GTi website as there must be someone close by who can run VCDS for me. I guess I should bite the bullet & buy it for myself so I can do these things.

At least the key works if I ever needed it, but it bugs me knowing that it's not fully functioning.

If/when you find someone - here is the simplest way to pair the remotes up I have found - worked perfectly for my new remote.

Although if already been matched maybe try this ?

Remote Control Synchronization

The 8E/8H platform Audi A4 is noted for losing remote control synchronization after low voltage conditions as explained in several TSBs. If the remotes are not functional after performing the Remote Control Matching the following synchronization may be necessary:

Press any button on remote control.

If vehicle does not respond by locking or unlocking:

Lock and unlock vehicle within 30 seconds using driver-side lock with the door closed.
Open the door and insert the key in the ignition turning it to the On position.
Remove the key from the ignition.
Press any button on remote control.
Now check function of synchronized remote control.

It is ever described in the owner manual how to resync a key for instance after battery replacement.

As per my original post, I have tried many variations on the reprogramming/re-sync procedure, including the one in the manual. None of these have worked. Thanks.

Sounds like the key could have gone through the wash in a pocket, happened to mine :bash:

Mine key fob is experiencing a similar issue. It stopped locking / unlocking but the key still works for the ignition. I attempted changing the battery, and after doing so, the red light doesn't flash. I haven't tried a reprogram but I believe the key fob light should flash regardless of programming if the battery is good.

Did you put the battery in the right way? And is the new battery not duff? Check the orientation and if that is ok then buy another battery or swap the battery from your working remote.

Try this. Worked for me . Key in ignition . Turn ignition on . On same key press lock and then unlock . Remove from ignition and lock/ unlock from remote key fob
