Good news. You need to plan all the mods that are worth doing at the same time now.

Deffo Mike. Front discs and pads and possibly coilovers will be going in whilst it's in bits.

Still a bit concerned about how the car has been treated by the salvage company as I have read a few horror stories about them!!!. Think I will be checking the car out prior to cashing the cheque!!!

As you said, have a good look around it before doing a buy back deal. Hopefully they have looked after it and its as it was when it left you.

You seriously want it back after damage?....no matter how cheap or good deal it is?

I know it's hard when you've put a lot of effort into a car BUT <beep> happens, I get pay out and move on to another car RS or not.

Good luck though.

Chris. For the amount they have offered outright versus what they have offered with car back, I could strip the car for parts and make 2-3 times the money its costing me to buy the car back. And if the electrics prove to much to resolve then that's what I would do.

Honestly. I do agree and I was resigned to the fact I would be shopping for something new, but with the offer they have started the ball rolling with, an outright pay-out vs buy back is a no brainer. If that offer increases significantly since seeing my detailed comparison document then I will deffo rethink that though and I may just let it be.

When you ask for a revised offer, that also prompts the insurer to ask the salvage yard for a revised offer

I had a mate that had his airbags triggered by accident while stationary by stopping over an automatic bus bollard, the bollard came up and clipped the block, but then sunk away again when it detected resistance. so basically all the car needed was a new steering wheel and new dashboard. he made up some sob storey how he hated a car and wanted it written off to the guy at the salage yard. the salvage yard could see it was an easy fix, so upon inspection gave the insurance a <beep> price. meanwhile he was telling the insurers that it was his dream car and wanted it back at all costs.

So he got it back at a silly cheap price, but had to visit the salvage yard 3 times to collect it, first 2 times they wouldn't release it, 3rd time he showed up with an insurance rep and 2 coppers

My initial thoughts when the salvage company took it away were that they would be rubbing their hands together at the money to be made off it, so as you say, they might not be very keen on seeing me collect it. I going to try, for what it's worth, to get some reassurances from the insurer about any damage sustained. I have a damage check sheet filled out by the lorry driver that collected it and numerous pics to support!!!

So the latest on my insurance saga.

The car has now been re-catergoried to a Cat -B by another assessor so I won't be getting it back. On a brighter note, they have increased their initial offer by about £5k so I'm happy with that. Means I can actually afford another car now!!!

This is sad, if the water was only as high as you said it was, only the CCM would've needed to be replaced...a new carpet couldn't hurt but the whole car for only those couple of items is sad.

It is very sad but I have a feeling the salvage company will be making a mint out of it. TBH they have offered more than I was ever expecting so I'm happy to that end. Sad that I won't see it or drive it again after unknown amounts spent looking after her. But I guess I don't know what other gremlins may have raised their heads over time although it looked like minimal damage!!!!

I feel for you man, still such a senseless waste. You can't even take some parts off at all?

I took a few bits off but nothing if any value. It's at Copart so it'll be up for auction very soon. It's more sad that the shell is mint but it'll need to be crushed as it cannot go back on the road!!!

That is truly astounding, no just cause for it to happen at all.

I was told they would likely cat b it from the start even though I said it's fine other than a few electric niggles (mostly connected). They just don't mess about with anything water related and to them it's just a lump of metal, not someone's pride and joy!!
