So, one thing led to another and..... (new wheels fitted)

Post by R4llye » Mon Aug 15, 2016 1:12 pm

I had a nice friendly letter posted through my door a few weeks ago with HSBC informing me my pitifully low ISA interest rate was going even further down, so I decided I wanted to do something with my money rather than it sit in a faceless bank. And you know, post-brexit spending to stimulate economy (or something.....)

Since I purchased my Sprint Blue Avant in Feb a few ideas have been circling in my brain - particularly in regards to reversible modification if/when I come to sell the car in the future. The first and most obvious of these was a set up wheels.

Struck up a conversation with Del at Prestige and, long story short, these turned up this morning. I might have gone fall <beep> with the 20 x 10.5 option. But you only live once!

Will post more pictures once they are on the car - And should also have a DTM style Carbon Splitter arriving in a few weeks...

I can see a potential issue with your purchase in that you'll need another three for the investment to work :P

Ha! Damnit, and there I was thinking that I had a good deal.

4 wheels have now have G5 Wheel Armour put on them and will be left for another day or 2 before they'll be fitted.

After a bit of messing around in the week and doing my back in I finally mananged to get the CV7's fitted this weekend. Few shots of it before:

And now some after. And before anyone else yes it - yes, the front now needs to be lowered! But with the point being reversible mods - not sure if I want to. I'll see how long I can live with it like that!

Next up will be an RS 04 Plate, DTM style Carbon Splitter, Re-trimmed Steering Wheel, Black Optic vinal wrapping. And maybe the front end lowered.

Massive thanks to Del @ Prestige for his time and help. Couldn't be happier with the help and service.

Defo need to drop it. For some reason, 20s make the height worse than it looked before, it was the same on my car.
Keep the springs then it is reversible when you come to sell it.

Is it me or do the front stick out a little too much? Hard to tell for sure until the front comes down a bit.

A little trick i use to see where the wheel will sit once lowed is to drive the wheel in question up a ramp/curb and leave the rest of the car on the flat.
This way you can see where it will sit with regard to the arch.

Sorry. Bad boy wheels require a bad boy stance.

I think the dish/tyre stretch makes the arch gap appear worse than standard, so definitely needs a drop. You could fit KW adjustable springs and then retain the OEM DRC.

TBH, I've 90% decided in doing the drop, the last 10% is me trying to stop myself go down the slippery slope beyond that.

The rear I can live with, the front will start to really annoy me - so it's enevitable really. The title of the thread is even more apt. One thing (wheels) will led to another (suspension drop).

The rear looks fine, just needs the front to match.

The Avant example above; for me is a little OTT, I'm sure it would scrape with any type of spirited driving.

Slippery slope indeed :nodder:
