Clutch Time
Clutch Time
Hello,
From time to time (very rarely tbh) my clutch pedal seems to get stuck half down, mainly when creeping in slow moving traffic. From doing a bit of research I believe this is a common issue and indicates the clutch will need changing soon?
Audi seem to be quoting a fixed price of £999 to change the clutch, does anyone know what sort of price am I looking at if I were to use a decent Independent?
Thanks

Re: Clutch Time
I'd have thought around £6-700 depending on which clutch kit you go for but don't quote me on that.

Hi there,
Firstly I see your quite new to the forum , by your posts
Many will say there a lot if write re the clutch staying down and you probably won't get any help from Audi or they will take your money, tell you half way through the job you need. New fly wheel (£965) then get your car back with the peddle staying down
So my advice is read the wrte up'd first then decide where your going
The more you read the more your know and maybe save some dosh
1st thing to check is to see if the clutch return pipe has been changed?

Re: Clutch Time
I'm supplying all the bits (inc dual mass flywheel, LUK clutch kit, master cylinder & slave cylinder) and been quoted £280 labour to fit everything at a local VAG Specialist with a good reputation. If you go to Audi and need a flywheel, you'll be in for well over £2k total bill.
Re: Clutch Time
Wow that's a good price mate, anyone we know or should know? Labour for the job is about 7.5 hrs so 37.50 per hour?Pistolpete2543 wrote:I'm supplying all the bits (inc dual mass flywheel, LUK clutch kit, master cylinder & slave cylinder) and been quoted £280 labour to fit everything at a local VAG Specialist with a good reputation. Re: Clutch Time
Yeah I thought it seemed cheap too, I was expecting around £400. He is well known in Northern Ireland and although I have not used him before personally, I know he does quite a lot of RS4's for others.

Hope all turns out well for you mate,

Re: Clutch Time
Hi,
Mine has started to do this clutch pedal sticking partially when it gets a few minutes of hard work.
Would probably go for the pipework on this type of fault, can anyone say if the whole pipe back to the master cylinder is a lot easier to replace with the gearbox removed.. ?
I may just get the box out and do a clutch and pipe at same time if there is a considerable amount of labour time to be saved.
Mike

Re: Clutch Time
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the DMF cost you? I've found all the other bits on Euro Car Parts, but can't find a DMF anywhere online.Pistolpete2543 wrote:I'm supplying all the bits (inc dual mass flywheel, LUK clutch kit, master cylinder & slave cylinder) and been quoted £280 labour to fit everything at a local VAG Specialist with a good reputation. Re: Clutch Time
DMF from TPS was quoted as £765+VAT, but after some good advice on here I ordered one from Rockauto.co.uk who are in the States. It's a LUK DMF077 and inc shipping and customs worked out at £400. Delivery due on Monday which will be 4 working days from order so the service is excellent.
I've also ordered all the small items from TPS inc the clutch return line, clutch lever, all new bolts, guide sleeve etc etc. My clutch pedal doesn't seem to stick at all, but sometimes car is difficult to engage first gear which is why I suspect clutch is worn and I don't want it to fail completely.

Great thanks for the advice, I take it the LUK DMF077 is OEM?Pistolpete2543 wrote:DMF from TPS was quoted as £765+VAT, but after some good advice on here I ordered one from Rockauto.co.uk who are in the States. Re: Clutch Time

The clutch pipe No26 in the picture the flexi rubber part (U shape in the picture) actually unscrews from both metal pipes so we have a teflon inner coated pipe with stainless steel overbraid made up and replace it with that so there is no need to buy the pipe from Audi, this is a better upgrade option and cheaper than the OE pipe.
I have sold a few to members at £50 + vat (£60) + £5 postage if anyone is interested

Hi there,
The part number 8E2721465AG I think has been superceeded by A8E2 721 465 BB which is the Audi upgraded part number resolving the heat issue with the early pipes that were fitted to all B7's ?
The complete pipe from Audi is £66.77 + vat
Some drivers had this pipe replaced but still suffered pedal positioning issues, so it's not a 100% fix
