Re: Stolen
Need more than their hands cutting off - a pair lower down without anasthetic preferably.....
Tried to get mine a couple of years ago, but fortunately the locks were good and they moved on and took a Focus ST down the road.
Know exactly what it feels like though...my sympathies.

Re: Stolen
Why keyless entry is such a bad idea... under EU Law car manufacturers MUST make details of their keyless entry systems available to "independent garages", which inevitably means that the information gets into the hands of criminal types (who pose as "garages") and who can then clone a "key".The_Coat wrote:Someone just walked up to the car at 3.30am while parked on his drive with a cloned key and drove it away within 20 seconds.
Gone: 2006 B7 RS4 Avant (Phantom Black)
Re: Stolen
I recently used my old iphone and a £5 per month data plan to create a DIY tracker for the RS4.

Seems to track the car pretty well. Hopefully won't ever need it

No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Stolen
Update:
The French police have been fantastic. They found the car and it's been recovered to a compound for 'further testing'
They've caught the guy who stole it, but it looks like the car has been well used. Police are now keeping the car as evidence 'due to the serious nature of crimes committed with the vehicle'. I'm sure this is about to become an insurance nightmare, but I'm contacting the FCA tomorrow to start an official complaint as my insurers have said there's nothing they can do now until the car is released. Could take 2 days, could take 2 months.
All the wheels look like they've been removed at some point, curb rash and one front tyre was completely covered in oil (looks like engine oil - that can't be good) and another with a gash in the sidewall.
Passenger door is dented,
Both wing mirrors have been caught and scratched,
No keys recovered with it,
Front bumper underside has been hit, (jumping speed bumps?) that'll do the DRC the world of good.
EPC, traction control and EML illuminated,
All rear windows smashed,
Rear drivers side light cracked,
No number plates,
That's just what I noticed in the 2 minutes the police let me see the car.
It's obviously been thrashed.

Re: Stolen
Poor RS4. I'm not sure I'd want it back.
Strange the wheels have been off? Maybe they tried to put smaller stealthier wheels on but they didn't clear the front brakes. If they've replaced it, worth checking the locking wheel nut for a fingerprint
As you could see the warning lights on, sounds like you've still got a key. With oil on the front tyre, definitely worth trying to persuade the police to let you check the oil level. Assuming you've just handed them the spare key, would be ironic for the police to move it and wreck the engine if oil has been leaking out the sump after smashing over speed bumps. The glass might have been smashed by vandals *after* the crims had finished using it for their 'jobs' and abandoned it
Insurance wise, you mean they won't give you a hire car? I've given up paying extra for 'guaranteed courtesy car' every year because its not quite so straight forward - there is so much fecking small print nowadays.

Re: Stolen
Well if it was me i wouldnt be taking it back unless it was for a very much reduced price..god knows whats been damaged and the drc might be fine now but 6 months down the line it might go tits up...pads and discs probably need replacing as well and thats just the start of the headache...i feel for you mate and would fight insurance company for as much as you can get.never accept first 2 offers anyway.
Re: Stolen
I have given the police the spare key.
The car is going back to the dealer I purchased it from 7 weeks ago once it is released, they knew the car was absolutely perfect. I have pictures of brakes and suspension they took before I purchased it.
Brakes, clutch, flywheel, engine codes, subframe, exhaust, wheels, shocks, springs, wishbones etc etc will all be inspected and replaced accordingly. The insurance Company have already agreed to this. Once a qoute comes in, they'll decided what to do.
Then it's the obvious stuff,
Windows, new passenger door skin, mirrors, wheel (I won't accept refurbished/repaired wheels) rear light, new front bumper, all door cards removed, along with seats so all the glass fragments can be removed completely.
Shall we take guesses on the parts price list, before labour?

Re: Stolen
The insurance could well have a massive bill on their hands there, hopefully it does not come near write off amounts...
Re: Stolen
The bill to fix my first S8 when it was stolen was well over £20K and that was a fair few years ago now.
It did survive about another 10 years though so they (Audi) did a decent job on the repairs, including a whole new rear quarter panel.
Insurers had little choice as they found it impossible (as I knew they would) to find a suitable replacement and the car WAS fixable.
