B7 to C7

Hi all. I've been thinking for a couple of weeks about moving from my B7 to a C7 RS6 and wondered if anyone else on the board has done that and what they have thought about it? I've not had a drive yet, but I really love the way the B7 drives and wondered if some of that is lost in the extra heft and electric steering of the C7. Leaving aside the mental engine etc.

I nearly pulled the trigger on one, had it ordered and everything and in the end i just couldn't deal with the amount of money i was going to lose the first 2 years. I have to admit it is an absolutely amazing machine and in my opinion is a far quicker machine than the B7, but with the B7 you get a good sense of it being a proper drivers car. the RS6 is just mad, but then theres a huge appeal to that in my eyes. For such a big car it shifts like something i've never been in before and in the wet its one of the best cars i've ever driven. If your looking for a seriously quick avant with loads of room and can take the hit financially then i'd say absolutely 110% go for it as you'll never regret it !

I have been looking at these too - although not driven one. I think once they have depreciated (which they seem to be doing quite rapidly) it will be my next car - much as I would love a V10 R8 and a landrover.

I've been reading around the C7 forum a bit and the finance stuff doesn't seem to be tooooo bad (all relative of course), but if you can haggle off about £10k from list (a la Broadspeed) then the residual after 3 years at 10k miles per year is about £42k. So it could be around £800 a month. Adding all the yummy options changes that.

It is that 'drivers car' thing that is holding me back a little tbh. We have a 25 year old Mercedes w124 estate (a fantastic 320te with Sportline) that is the main family workhorse for heading to beach, camping etc. and the thinking is that the C7 would replace the B7 and the W124 and we'd get a smaller car for driving around town.

Choices, choices, but I guess a test drive is the order of the day. So far Bristol Audi has a spanking new one in Panther in the showroom, but say that they best they can do for a test drive is to head across to Cardiff and drive a second hand one, accompanied, there.

Yeah spec'ing it up can be where it gets out of control. I was nearly at £90k ! I had about £6k audi contribution + £3k dealer contribution which brought it down to £81k mark, but i just couldn't bring myself to do the whole PCP thing and decided to buy outright the B7 RS4 which i bought a few weeks ago...

I ordered one and then cancelled it. I had two test drives, one with dynamic steering, one without.

I haven't driven the car long enough to give a truly well formed opinion but....

In a way, it made me love my RS4 more. You never forget you're driving an RS4 in the B7 even when you're driving around sainsbury's carpark, it's a very raw car compared to the C7. On my first drive, I was pretty disappointed with the noise, may as well have been in a A6 half the time, not even close to the sound of the B7. The pops from the exhaust were fun but it doesn't have the in your face solid roar of the V8 that the B7 has and the noise is the one of the best parts about owning a v8.

B7 for me is just so direct and chuckable, you always feel like you're in total control of the car. That's not as apparent in the C7, it's a much bigger car, it doesn't feel as big as it is but it definitely feel a lot bigger than the B7. Dynamic steering felt odd to me, straight line speed is amazing, gearbox amazing, interior amazing.

For me, it's still a car I'm looking at owning but not just yet and would look at getting one a couple years old.

Wow... £800 a month and the deprciation at the end!! I wonder how much money people are actually losing at the end of the contract?

If money is'nt a factor then go for it mate. No doubt a great car but not great enough for me at that expense.

I was getting £12k discount on mine, sensible spec and with £20k deposit. Would have cost me £37k in interest and depreciation(going off the GFV). I know that's the name of the game at this price but I realised I just wasn't that well off to be losing all that.

Mental that mate. At RS6 money as well your talking supercar territory (Porsche/Ferrari etc) and owning something that could appreciate in the long run. Not very family friendly granted but easier on the pocket maybe.

It's not Ferrari money, it's cooking 911 money. They might hold their value a bit better but bottom line is that cars depreciate, either spunk the money or don't.

If you have a 2nd car as a work horse then low mileage 09 V10 R8's can be had around 60k and a lot less depreciation too.

Pretty sure a 15 plate V10 will depreciate. They'll take a bump when the first new cars arrive. There will be one, at least, at Goodwood.
