Sounds like a small end to me. Which would also explain the low oil pressure and use of oil.

Hopefully its something else but thats what I instantly thought it sounded like.

Did you ever find out what was wrong with your engine?

I am experiencing similar noise however it seems to go after about 30 seconds from start up.

I changed oil from 5w30 long life to regular 5w40 and two days later i got this noise on start up. Possibly a coincidence and before this the car was sat from 9 days as I was away. So I <beep> my self and changed the oil back to 5w30 long life. After running on idle from around 2-3 minute the noise disapeared so I thought the problem was solved, however it now comes back at random times only at start up, for about 30 seconds and then stop, can go 5 start ups being fine the will return.

This leads me to believe it's a lazy/sticking valve lifter. Or possibly the hpfp cam follower. I have changed the pump cam followers from side to side and it hasn't done it again so far (only started around 4 time since the follower change) but it could well be the next start it comes back. The cam follower on the near side bank did have very slight shining/scouring in one section. Nothing you could feel with nail it just looked more shiny in virticle stripes on one side, the other one was not marked at all. So it could be possibly the follower is not returning to the cam fully causing the noise but I'm not entirely convinced on this.

To be honest I would almost prefer it to make the noise all the time as at least I could bloody fix it but as it's just intermittent its difficult to even trace it.

I'm wondering if I should do a oil valve treatment like wyns but don't want to make things worse as I have read bad things about disturbing more deposits.

Any help greatfully received :beerchug:

I deffo wouldn't leave it to a non-specialist to investigate/repair. Get it trailered to Revolution or Unit 20 in Cheshire. Hope you get it sorted OK.
