We all seem to be waiting to see what the avant has to offer, there doesn't seem to be many that are ready to buy this one... And even if the avant is aesthetically up to par, is it going to be 'special' enough now we have the saloon? So who's going to buy them? A few have mentioned an RS4+ which sounds tasty, but should probably be called the 'RS60GRAND Plus'. Too much for me! So... is this the end???? Perhaps we should have a wake.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Hi see this comparison in 2001 the dates of SOPORTS CARS
RS4 B5 x M5 2001 x E55 2001 x C32 2001 x M3 2001
Which car was more fast, in aceleration and preformances?
RS4 B5
and now do the same test
RS4 B7 x M5 2005 x E55 2005
and remember RS4 B7 dates 0 - 100km/h 4,8s and 0 - 200km/h 16,6s, is very very slow!!! and now Which car is more fast today?
M5 and E55
then NO TURBOS, NO FUN
oh oh oh but the RS4 B7 is better of RS4 B5 in track :D , ok I know!!! 8) but remember, I live in city with roads and big lines, I don´t live in circuit!!!
cheers and LONG LIFE TO V6tt :biggrin3:

I have no doubt it will be a faster car and the dynamics will be a step up. I just don't see the difference as being worth the cost to change. It's not different enough to me to put it in a different league.

This whole thread cracks me up. You guys should take a step back and read your own posts.

I keep hearing that the RS cars have to be Avants to be true RS cars. Historically now only half of the RS cars will have been released only as Avants - the RS2 and B5 RS4. The RS6 and B7 RS4 will be both in Sedan and Avant guise. Doesn't sound like only true RSs are Avants.

Let's figure out what an RS really is - Audi's ultimate version of a particular model. If you start limiting it to what came before, then you'd have to agree that there is only one true RS - the RS2. Everything else that came after wouldn't qualify. Why?

The RS2 was the only RS that was co-developed with Porsche. Since then there have been no true RS cars.

The RS2 was only offered in Manual transmission. The RS6 had an automatic, therefore the RS6 is not a true RS.

See how crazy it sounds?

Just an observation...

Read the magazine tests of RS2 and RS4, and you may see why RS means Avant to many. And yes, I actually agree that RS2 is the true RS. :)

Look at the numbers sold, and you'll see why RS is Avant to many. I think at least in Europe, RS6 Avant far out sold RS6 sedan.

Marketing reasons -Americans who can't be seen driving an estate(?)- makes Audi widen the definition from world's ultimate estate to "ultimate version of a particular Audi model". How lame is that? So you could now have a new RS2 with A2 body, front wheel drive and a "stunning" 180 hp diesel-as long as it the ultimate version of it's range :?:

Thanks for making me observe how limited I am, John. It truly would be an RS if Audi said so ;)

RS4ever, your post made the following cross my mind: "B7rs4 says - Audi means business"
d.
RS4-ever

- RS4 B5, 2001, avus, stock but basically all options (former mileage eater, now leisure usage only)
- A4 3.0 Avant, 2002, silver (current mileage eater)
- Z3 3.0 roadster, 2003, silver (missus car)

Why is an RS4 being compared to an M5? Isn't that the RS6's job? Surely the RS4's job is to take on the V8 M3 ?

Thats what I would have said..... it annoys me these car comparisons.... And why do people compare the S4 to the M3 surely the S4 is a 330CI beater....... in which case Audi are ahead in performance stakes all the way!

I cant believe there is so much hate for the car already, based on 8 photos and a video!

I would disagree. The S4 is the main production car, so should get compared to the M3.
The RS4 was the limited 'special', so gets compared to the CSL in my opinion.
Or maybe that is an invalid comparison as one is an estate and the other a coupe

I bet you will find that people will compare cars based on price, spec, performance, as their circumstances dictate.
Who really cares which is the 'correct' comparison anyway unless you really are that anal about spec comparisons.

When it comes to buying a car I go by looks, value, practicality for what I intend to use it for, exclusivity, and a whole host of other things.
I can't honestly say I've ever thought 'oh, can't consider the M5 as its not in the same class as the others I'm considering...'

I don't see any hate either. Lots of views from current and potentially future owners, but hate ?

At the end of the day I somehow doubt Audi will take any notice of what we write here as the cars will sell regardless. You can't please all of the people all of the time...

Most of the negative comment will come from existing owners who know what a great car they have now. I am finding it very difficult to get excited by what I have seen of the new one. I will never buy a saloon. I may never buy the Avant.

Those who don't already have one don't have the experience of the twin turbo woosh. Yes, its going to take a lot to beat the B5 RS4, but if you don't have one, then I guess the B7 is next best ;)

In 2001, when I bought RS4 only for one reason because RS4 B5 was the car with a super performances, better of the one than M5, M3, E55, certain C32 of 2001, ok?
RS4 B7 has performances slower than the M5, E55 current and only were with equal performance to the one of M3 CSL that this in the end of this generation!
The new M3 will be faster than the RS4 B7, can bet!
If the RS4 B7 is a normal car what is then the S4 and the A4?
sorry but my last audi is RS4 B5 :(

LONG LIFE TO V6tt
