Fault code

Post by Rick_RS4 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 8:21 am

So I found 9 reply to this even one that I had posted an answer to. I'm trying to convince myself it's not the MAF so I thought I'd ask and get a solid answer.

Took the car out on Sunday when it was heavily raining and just going through the village the traction light came on and the engine management light also.

I did a fault code read and found P0101 MAF

I found it could be a few things one being the brake light switch which I'll order and get that swapped over, the rain maybe have nothing to do with it but thought I'd add that as I've had it before with my last Leon when I fitted a CAF it rained and think sucked in some water spray and threw a cel

also the car idles and drives fine no hesitation or jerkyness

Any input from anyone would be appreciated

Have you checked your intake filter to see if it did take a gulp of water if it did could then put a coating on the MAF, I say this as did this to mine in heavy rain, I hit a large patch of surface water and shortly after had the engine management light come on

Stripped out Revo intake, changed filter and cleaned the MAF with Isopropanol Alcohol and all ok since (3 months )

No I haven't I waited a couple of days to let it dry out then went out last night and it came on again. I'll remove the revolution filter and cove everything a clean.

Thanks I thought it might be the water thing. Picked up a brake light switch anyway and will change it to save future problems

cleaned the filter, replaced the brake light switch and used electrical contact cleaner on the maf,

however still get the traction light on after a short run,

tested the maf air flow readings and it shows 48 g/s all the time so looks like the maf is buggered

strabge as it drives fine, maybe a slight stutter about 2-3k when you rev it

Think the ECU just reverts to a stock map for the MAF readings if there is a problem.

Hi Mate, Was that the reading before and after or just after?

The electrical cleaner can be a bit harsh for the Maf sensor, I did read across the net the success with the Isopropanol Alcohol

Sounds like the Maf if knackered or coated with the residue from the contact cleaner

What happens if you unplug the maf? No change? That should mean something.

Also some people get maf codes if they over-oil their K&N filter. Maybe check this...(if you have one)

There was no change when I removed the maf. The first time I started it after I cleaned everything it wouldn't start without the maf disconnected.

Changed the maf for a new one last night and the logs showed it was working again and no light so far.
Going out tonight for a run so hopefully it stays away.

I have the Revo filter so no oil at all.

What's a revo filter... The open element carbon one?

As I and a few others mentioned to nikkakk on AR when he was trying to figure out why hisndyno numbers weren't great, going back to stock airbox would be highly advisable.

It's the carbon one like the gruppe m one. I have made a full size air feed now maybe about 6" and covered over where the exhaust manifold is. Still may revert back. I think it sucked in some water because of the larger cai

I'd be inclined to put the stock airbox on and sell the carbon one. It's beautiful, and will sell instantly. Try selling in the US.

It's a dead horse that has been soundly beaten but the stock airbox is BEST. For perspective using acceleration data:

Fastest supercharged RS4 ever - stock airbox

Fastest NA RS4 ever - stock airbox
2nd fastest - stock
3rd fastest - stock
4th fastest - stock
5th fastest - stock
6th fastest - stock

:)
