Same here - not heard JHM or MTM but I'm Mclovin' my JCWF...

My line of thinking too. A forum member has just claimed on Milltek's lifelime warranty as all the welds had failed after 6 years and 34k miles. To be fair it looks like Milltek have replaced it but only because they were the original owner with receipts etc.

I had mine at Torque Technique in Salisbury and Mick there has 30yrs experience with building custom exhausts - he had a look at the milly as he was interested to see what the craftsmanship was like and he did nothing but slate it and say he could have built me a much better system - oh well it is done now and i do love the sound of it so i am not that disheartened.

Tbh when I started it I was shocked at the noise. It is loud but 8 have cold start which I need mapping out. When it's warm it's fine. There's no need to shout or get a headache after 30 mins of driving.

You could quite happily take granny out for the day in it.

But boot it and all hell breaks loose.

Personally if you anni the sound of a milltek just take the centre boxes out and save yourself a grand as that's the only difference.
good to see you have finally got this fitted rick, i was worried you might think it was to loud but good to hear its not.
like you say get the secondary air injection/cold start mapped out, will be a lot quieter on start up.

So, cheaper than a Milltek with cats by a fair bit? Nice.

And the quality of the JCweldfab... I've never ogled at bends and joins like those.

Yes, I retained my 200CEL cats but binned the pre-cats, obviously...

Absolutely. The bends and welding is truly outstanding.

I went non-res and have been regretting - so much in fact that on Tuesday I'm going back to MRC and getting the centre section swapped to a res one.

Especially in Sport mode the resonance between 1000-2000rpm is, to me , unbearable. I suspect it may be worse in Avants - the longer body will enhance the ability for resonances and standing waves to be setup - as when I asked about a non-res I got a very pro- vote on here last year.

For me the non-res has completely spoilt the car, and I've had to completely change my driving technique to keep the revs above 2500rpm even when I'm just pottering with family.

Yes, I've added more detail to my post to explain...

And I do have the quiet start map, but that's not the issue I have with the non-res.

Dave - I take you don't have valves either?

I DO have valves - they reduce the drone a certain degree but for me (and this is a personal opinion) it's still unacceptably loud.

Do you not like yours then Dave? Haven't you had it for a fair while? Are you just putting up with it or planning to change? They are mega loud on cold start up, so not exactly neighbour friendly either really but there is a time and place for them too.

^ that

I really don't think Milltek are worth the money on our cars. When people say they like the sound of a milltek I think they often mean they like the sound of an un-resonated RS4. You can get that for £150.

Out of interest how does full ebwerks or jc weldfab compare cost wise with a Milltek?

Btw I'm talking catback here. Downpipes slightly different matter, but again, £1500 on a pair of off-the-shelf sports cat downpipes isn't great bang for buck.
So can i just buy the centre sections and swap the for the originals??? The pipe diameter is 60mm on the Milltek, what is it on our cars as standard?

I thought I had explained what I'm not happy with and what I'm doing about it?

I've had a non-res valved Milltek since May 2013 and been unhappy with the 1000-2000rpm drone from early on, so MRC will be swapping the centre section to a res on Tuesday. But I've already said that in this thread... The delay was getting the funds together and permission from "she who must be obeyed".

Cold start is a non-issue for me as I have the MRC cold start mod, and I've already said that in this thread...

So for clarity... I love the better exhaust note, I don't have a problem with cold start, the only thing I don't like (to the extent that I can no longer live with it) is the 1000-2000rpm drone. Hopefully that's clear now.
