Going from SS to SS+ [REVIEWED p5!]

Post by stu » Wed Jun 18, 2014 1:39 pm

[edited the thread subject now that I've not just considered doing it. I've done it :)]

Afternoon all, I'm toying with the idea of changing my suspension setup from sports suspension to sports suspension plus on my avant. Reason? I fancy a change but, since I'm boring, I like my car with Audi bits! Might also help a little at Spa in September.

I can't figure out what the change would entail on a B7 advant - is it just the springs? From memory I think that was the case for one body type but not all. My powers of search are failing me...

I also seem to remember someone mention that the DRC pressure is slightly different not not sure how true this is.

I know you said you like Audi bits but if you got the KW adjustable springs you could tailor the hieght to exactly how you want it. I think the SS+ still has the front a little high doesn't it?

Stop messing about man and get some KWv3 coilovers and suitable ARB's installed - springs wont help you at spa only a blue flag will be your friend!

stu - I've got SS+ on my saloon and it's fantastic. It is still high at the front but lower at the back - ARB's are different but DRC pressure are in fact the same I believe. I've not driven non-SS+ but mine is very planted.

However like sync24 mentions, I would maybe go KWv3's if I was you and fancied a switch - I'm not sure the expensive would balance the results. I;d go KWv3 if you fancied that 'change'. I know I would...

i have the k/w adjustable springs on mine (standard suspension) and still rate this mod as one of the best i have done, the car just feels so much more planted on the road and looks so much better without the huge arch 'gap' particularly at the front :)

I know the KWv3's are great, but I'm keeping the DRC. I'm a big fan, so much so that if it ever failed I'd probably replace it with more DRC. Maybe SS+ won't make a great deal of difference. It's hard to tell. Has anyone gone SS to SS+?

If I had a chassis number or reg from their SS+ Avant, perhaps I could figure out the differences on the parts computer?

I have KW3's with H&R ARB's and although it handles great the ride quality at low speeds is nowhere near as good as the DRC system.

For me, the SS+ setup is the way to go if you want to retain some form of comfort.

This is the quandry i'm in, i have SS+ and have a set of KWv3's sat on the shelf but i'm really worried that fitting them will kill the ride as i've not been in a car with them on.. the only reason i'd like them is to lower the front, the rear sits perfect as it is with SS+ imo..

For all those that want to keep DRC then the KW adjustable springs is the perfect option. It keeps the ride quality of DRC but allows you to drop the ride height to your perfect height. It's like going for SS+ but looks better cos you haven't got the high front and can take it even lower if you wish

Love the SS+ setup on my car.

When looking for an RS4 I was worried when going to view mine about the SS+ ride being too firm over the standard examples I had viewed previously, once I had driven the setup my doubts dissapeared. I've run KW's on previous cars before and they are good but a healthy DRC system is better IMHO.
