Thoughts on a Porsche 928s auto

Post by Daytona RS » Wed Apr 30, 2014 8:24 pm

Hey guys, without wanting to, I stumbled upon a very clean looking 1986 Porsche 928s auto box, with a very decent asking price... A bug has now bitten and I'm really considering whether this is a decent buy or will I just be throwing cash at never ending problems?

Any of you with some prior experience, and any comments?
Thanks!

Love these cars, my dad had 2 when I was a kid, many good memories of being driven round in them, when I was 17 I used to take it out when he was on holiday, they drive really well, still look good to this day. :beerchug:

Love. So much love. I used to sit and draw these cars in primary school. I'll have a manual, thanks.

I know two people that have owned these and as pretty as they are, they were nightmares and spent more time on the driveway broken then they did running and most decent length journeys were an utter gamble. Why is this in the B7 section and not in general?
Current:

23' C8 RS6 Vorsprung - 23' RS E-Tron GT Carbon Vorsprung

Gone:

"Brutus"- C5 RS6 Avant - MRC stage 2 - Milltek non-res + 100 cell cats - Wagner ICs - PSS9 - H&R ARBs - OZ Superturismo LM - C6 Custom brakes - HD RNS-E - Various other bits - 555PS/832Nm
"Taz"- C7 RS6 - MRC stage 2 745PS/1095Nm
12' Cayenne Turbo, B7 RS4, S3, Cupra R, XJR, EVO VII, STI8,5,2&WRX, 106 GTI&XSI, other crap.

You wouldn't buy one for reliability though, would

Agreed - a 928 will make a C5 RS6 look cheap to run!

I've read a few good threads on these on PistonHeads that illustrate what a nightmare they can be. I still love the looks and sound of them though
Misano Red B7 RS4 Avant. 20" Rotors. KW adjustable spring kit. 8 & 10mm H&R spacers. MRC Stage 2 remap. Pre-cat delete & x-pipe.

Lovely car, I must've been lucky with mine in 2 years I didn't even have to top up the oil.

Great car even with the auto. S2 mine was, wanted a S4 GT or GTS but went skint so had to sell :(

How much space is up front? Could it fit an LSX donk?
