Re: sticky clutch
Did you fully test the performance of the car before buying it - IE take it up to 6000rpm plus in 1st / 2nd [Read thrash it] if you did you would have noticed it then and could have reported it back to the dealer there and then. However, I think you will have no chance of going back afterwards to the dealer as they will say 'clutch'? wear and tear mate and to be fair they have no idea what you have been doing to the car [hard launches, riding the clutch ETC]
Mine's been sticking for about 7 months - doesn't bother me and only appears during spirited driving, i just hook it back up if it sticks - I'll get a new clutch next year - looking around £2k including the fly wheel so bear that in mind.

Re: sticky clutch
Tricky.
Sale of goods act would come into play here. As it's only six weeks (well within the guideline six months) the emphasis is on the supplying dealer to prove the fault was caused after delivery.
The tricky part is how repeatable the issue is. If it does it every time without fail after a high rpm down change then it may have been reasonable for you to test this prior to purchase.
If it does not do this on every change then it is reasonable to assume the problem may have been present at the time of purchase and not found during a reasonable lay person inspection of the car.
The important thing is that a sticky clutch is not always a fault due to wear and tear - slipping, yes, granted, but sticky not so. There's still not a completely sound diagnosis of the underlying cause only that a new clutch fixes it.
My advice would be to contact the dealer (make sure you keep logs) by phone first and explain the issue all nice and politely. See what they say. If you get no joy, then simply write a letter (clearly marked "without predjudice" at the top) again being nice detailing the issue and address to the dealer principle. My objective in these cases is to some how reach a compromise... say for example free fitting or free labour and anything more is a bonus. If they simply refuse then it's a tricky situation - the "correct" thing to do is give them back the keys and reject the car but theis leaves you without a car and gets complicated so you need to see how bad the issue is to you.

Re: sticky clutch
Myles, make sure you replace the clutch return pipe and slave cylinder also if yours is suffering from the sticky issues. These are not expensive items but are important to change at this point.
Gone and miss very much

Re: sticky clutch
Got the same problem with mine. I'm going to spa and ring in may so not sure what's best to do? I've read some where about the return feed pipes being an issue is this the case? Or are we talking new clutch flywheel ect?

Re: sticky clutch
I think the general consensus is new clutch. The pipes are only changed by the dealers as when under warranty it's far cheaper and easier to try first.Paulburks wrote:Got the same problem with mine. Re: sticky clutch
Not sure the feed pipes have ever been changed. Is there an issue with the pipes or is the sticky clutch peddle due to clutch fault

Re: sticky clutch
Replace the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel [Dual Mass or a.n.other if you choose], master & slave cylinders and all return pipes all at the same time.
Re: sticky clutch
That's sounds like it's gonna be cheap, anyone had this done? What sort of price did you paysync24 wrote:Replace the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel [Dual Mass or a.n.other if you choose], master & slave cylinders and all return pipes all at the same time.

Re: sticky clutch
Hi There Myles and all,
Just to throw some further thinking into the discussion re clutch sticking down
Whilst I was in my stealers today (Camberley)collecting my car after its service ect, I thought I would ask to speak to Rob (RS Man) re this issue after reading last night and ask his thoughts on the matter and where I stood with Audi if mine suffers with this
I said I had read preaviously that RS4 owners had replaced Master & slave cylinders, clutch and pressure plate, release bearing, return pipe fly wheel ect ect ect
He said firstly distiguish between slipping clutch through wear and tear age or slipping clutch due to peadle staying down
In his expirence he said there was two main reasons for the clutch peadle staying down, firstly the return pipe issue where the standard pipe had too smaller bore restricting the return flow, some were replaced under warrantee, some replace under Audi's decression/customer relasionship others at the customers cost, the second reason being the release bearing sticking on the main gearbox shaft spline
He said they would replace any of the other items unless they were proved to be faulty
I will not be testing mine for the clutch issue until the full warranty kicks in .......soon!

Re: sticky clutch
Not sure about the slave and master but i'm about to get clutch and perhaps flywheel done.. £1800 all in for both with labour.. I'd expect the master and slave to be about another £1000 again once labour is factored in..Paulburks wrote:That's sounds like it's gonna be cheap, anyone had this done?
