Ceramic brakes
Ceramic brakes
There is a beautiful white edition RS4 2008 for sale in sweden, and i want to go and look at it. It has 100.000km on the meter - so im just wondering, when is it time for the brake change on the ones with ceramic brakes? Ive been told the price tag on changing the disks are about £4500? True, false?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Ceramic breaks
Brakes are what stop your car, break is what your car does when your brakes don't work
In some countries I believe that Audi offer a 150,000km warranty on the ceramic discs.

Re: Ceramic breaks
From recent posts and having covered 100k kilometers they will be a liability IMO and I would allow £5k plus for a new set.

Re: Ceramic brakes
100km is how many miles??
If its just road use, they will be more than fine...it depends how much hard track use they have had...

Re: Ceramic brakes
Audi reckon that the discs are good for 300,000km under normal driving, but as D_K says, this is likely to be a bit shorter if tracked.

Re: Ceramic brakes
In the UK, the ceramic discs retail at about £2100 each. SGL Carbon, who make the discs for Audi (as well as for Porsche and Lambo) state the service life is 150,000 miles. As for wear - they don't wear in the conventional sense, they degrade and loose mass when overheated. So they should really be weighed to determine when they need replacing.

Re: Ceramic brakes
Apologies if this has been covered a million times but, is it a straight forward swap to standard discs on a car fitted with ceramic ones when they are ready for a change?
Re: Ceramic brakes
I think you will need to change callipers as well as the ceramics are a different diameter. Probably bits of coding to do as well to let the system know you have changed.cheese666 wrote:Apologies if this has been covered a million times but, is it a straight forward swap to standard discs on a car fitted with ceramic ones when they are ready for a change?

Diferent discs, differnet pads, different calipers, different splash shields.cheese666 wrote:Apologies if this has been covered a million times but, is it a straight forward swap to standard discs on a car fitted with ceramic ones when they are ready for a change?
Audi do an official retro fit kit containing all the bits you need (except the splash shields), including a CD-ROM with a few pdf documents on there. Part number is 8E0 098 203. Make sure a sturdy seat is nearby when asking for the price thou!

TT - Is that not the Ceramic retrofit kit, I read the question as swapping back to the steel setup? From reading your historical posts I see that you're a stickler for correct information, so wouldn't want any duff information out there?
