No just for looks, the sport button is on my steering wheel. I hate blank buttons and this was the only one I had so I ordered the rs4 from the car style 4 you website :bigblink:

Do you mind me asking who he is and how to contact him?
I'm looking for a turn key solution as much as possible!

If you have a double DIN radio then you just need the RNS-E, a wiring adapter, an antenna adapter and a hockey puck GPS antenna (unless you're in the US when you'll have a satellite radio pre-fit that includes a GPS antenna and you'll just need a Fakra to Fakra extension lead).

If you have a single DIN radio then you also need to convert the centre console over to double DIN for which you need the double DIN frame plus you'll need to trim down the climate control panel (as it sits lower down where the centre console is narrower).

I quite fancy doing this myself, is it relatively easy?

And I don't suppose you have a list of the part numbers required do you?

Cheers :)

You remove the CD changer from the glovebox and the AMI is a direct fit into the same place.

Part numbers you'll need are:
AMI - 8P0 057 785 CAN AMI
Cable - I bought an 8K0 051 592 cable and modified it, but some eBay sellers include the correct cable for an RNS-E if you buy the AMI from them (tell them it's for an 8P A3 to get the right cable).

Once I got off my BTM and did it (I had the parts sitting in my study for 2+ years!) it only took me about an hour including glovebox out, fitting the cable (I left the CD changer cable connected with a vague thought of modifying the glovebox to take both AMI and CD changer), replacing the glovebox and recoding the RNS-E with VCDS.

If you fit a 2010+ RNS-E and AMI then you get a proper iPod interface with full control and track & album names shown on the RNS-E.

Pluses:
+ Higher resolution screen
+ Faster route calculation
+ SDHC cards instead of SD cards (giving 2 x 32GB capacity)
+ Compatible with AMI to which you can connect a hard disk (I have a 250GB hard disk) or an iPod - and get full control and track/album names.

Minuses:
- can't show the RS4 startup screen
- no SDS hack publicly available
- not made by Audi as an A4 version, so you have to do the faceplate swap from an A3 or TT version
- If you have AMI you lose the Aux audio input
- No external AV functionality on US versions

To add full SDS (i.e. voice control of SOME of the features like navigation, not just voice dialling) to versions without it.

Ok, so I managed to do the physical install with no issues, but I cannot get the RNSE unit to recognise my ipod :(

Got the right AMI unit, right ipod lead etc, but under the media menu it just displays the 2 SD cards, Nav DVD and 'external audio source' on the screen as though nothing is plugged in, even though my ipod is, and on the ipod it shows it being charged.

I'm sure the issue is vag-com coding, but I've tried all-sorts all afternoon and don't know what to do now...

Can anyone help...

I've got std 2007 B7 RS4 saloon, with Bose and Bluetooth (retro-fit, so I still have flat bottom s/wheel), and now with a 2012 RNSE (which came from an A3 albeit with a B7 faceplate already fitted) and AMI unit in place of the std CD changer. It originally had the 'old' Nav unit fitted from the factory and CD changer in glovebox.

I'm guessing that to code the new RNSE you go under the 'Navigation' module on vag-com, and if so, my current coding is showing 0301723, which I guess can't be right as the Gala display is still being shown on the unit....

I'm sure that I read you also have to change some code under 'Adaptation' as well, but this stuff is really confusing.

Can someone please advise which modules on vag-com need to be recoded, and any steer as to what code I should be using would be fantastic.

Thanks loads,

Lee

Have you connected the CAN bus (Lo and Hi from the D connector on the RNS-E) to the AMI, as well as the power (also from the D connector) and audio (to the 32-pin AV connector on the RNS-E)?

The Ross-Tech wiki is a good place to start for coding etc. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29

The RNS-E coding you need is 309721:
3 = B6/B7 A4
0 = front speaker monitoring on
9 = Bose
7 = EU Bluetooth
2 = AMI
1 = no CD changer, no MFSW, no TV tuner

You also need to set adaptation channel 8 to 255 to disable the DSP (GALA) menu.

Once you've done the coding then restart the RNS-E (by pressing and holding the RADIO and SETUP keys). Then check the RNS-E and the phone module for fault codes, and clear any you find.

I have the same setup as you, so it does work OK.

Brilliant. Thank you!

All sorted now, works like a dream. Just silly coding errors. I can't describe the pleasure to be able to properly listen to my ipod through the stereo system :)
