If a new engine is fitted under warranty then the 2 year one doesn't apply.

please show me where...I will take a truckload of RS4 engines if they're only 2k each.

How soon can you arrange this?

Sure here's some advice - cross your fingers! Sorry couldn't resist.

I reckon you'll have a new engine. Unless you over-revved it, or unless you're tuned and have a bunch of mods that could lead them to revoke your warranty, Audi will recommend a new engine under warranty.

If on the other hand you have an MRC tune or something, it could be tough. Not that the tune necessarily caused anything but it would be a great excuse for the warrantor to void the deal. Avoiding massive bills like this is understandable for cars with parameters that are outside the Audi spec, for which they provide a warranty.

As for getting a new engine, that's a great thing in my mind...as long as you're keeping the car. Some people are scared of cars that have had engine replacements but to be honest, I would love the opportunity to own an RS4 with a brand new engine. I think it's a big plus. I have a warranty still on my car and that is the primary reason I haven't modified it at all...

Still no news........
I phoned them at 17.30 but the tech wasn't there so will be phoning then tomorrow AM.

Hi sakimano. As far as I know the engine is standard, I've only owned the car for 4 months so unless something was done to it before that isn't visible then it's 100% standard.
It wasn't over revved when the engine went pop, I'm not even sure I know how to over rev an engine that has a limiter? Apart from what someone mentioned earlier in the thread about going from 4th to 2nd etc?
Ye, your right a new engine will be amazing but the issue I've got is what you've said..... I was in the process of putting the car up for sale after Xmas and new year after losing my job 2 months ago.

Yes over revving on missed down change (buzzing an engine) is one option but you seem sure that hasn't happened.

100% definately not over revved. I'm almost convinced Audi will try to find a reason to not accept my claim, purely because of the expense. It's been a week so far with no inkling towards a cause etc

I think the warranty company may have something to say if your engine went bang.... what with all your strip-times plastered all over the internet, don't you ?

As above - buzzing usually bends valves than breaking a con rod

Just spoken to the claims department and they cannot continue with the claim until the engine is taken out of mine and a cause of failure established, which if I'm liable will incur a cost to me of approx £600!
Adsgreen you seem to know what your talking about. Surely if its oil related it would've given me a warning? I've had confirmation that no codes were present prior to failure.

conrods can fail due to over-rev, and quite often they do (not saying that is what happened here)
during the mis-shift the direction can change upbruptly, a piston going up and now the crank going down snaps the rod
piston flails up and contacts the valves

is the RS4 an interference engine?
what rods failed, what is the firing order, much can be discerned from this

if it was oil the filter will give some clues, bearing material should be in it
I doubt a high grade synthetic oil, even if the wrong weight, would cause a failure like this (RS4 euro oil is light anyways, 5W30). it may accelerate wear, but not a catastrophic failure
bad oil would cause wear and a rod may wobble/knock the bolck due to decreased clearance
I could see one rod failing and taking another with it, due to either contact or increased loading, 7 vs 8 cylinders taking the load

the ECU will tell them a lot: temps, revs, load, throttle positon, possibly gear (derived from rev and road speed), etc.

looks like the end caps sheared off?
are the rods intact and the crank ends broke loose?

be curious to know did the bolts back out/unthread or did they pull out/shear the threads?
