If the satnav was replaced under warranty then almost certainly they'd have put in the same as original.

2 easy ways to check without (as you don't have another to compare to) - does it come up with the RS4 graphic on the RSNe screen when you turn the ignition on, and does it have a CD/TV button? If yes, then it's the old spec unit.

The iPod dock thing isn't really a 100% certain check, because the older basic iPod "dock" will work OK with a newer RNSe, but still won't give track info

I was going to suggest the RS4 logo but it didn't do this from factory, it had to be set by the user using VCDS. Mine certainly didn't do it when I got it so if it doesn't show the RS4 logo that doesn't help you as it could be either unit, but if you do get the RS4 logo it is definitely the older unit.
But you're right about the CD/TV button.

And bear in mind that the later 193 spec '2010' unit was never manufactured for the B7, so there is next to no chance that Audi would supply an A3 unit for an A4 under warranty, and then set to work dismantling it to swap the faceplate over!...

The car had a new nav unit installed in jan 11 under warranty... I don't suppose this would have been on of the later models would it that everyone seems to retro fit.. Is there any quick way of telling?

It won't be a 2010+ RNS-E as Audi don't make then for the B6/B7, we fit them by swapping the faceplate over from an A3 or TT unit as the electronics is the same.

The easy way to tell is if it has a button marked MEDIA then it's a 2010+unit.

Thats it then fellas its got the CD/TV button so its the older unit. Anyone near notts thats done this to there B7? Fancy giving me a hand in the new year??

As I understand it the hardest bit is swapping faceplates over, and I read somewhere yesterday the seller on ebay did it for them when requested.

Actually that's the only hard part, because that's all you need to do other than recode thru VCDS (5 min job).

I think the eBay seller was offering to code it in advance rather than do a faceplate swap?

No you're right - someone posted to say they'd used the same people and apparently they'd done the faceplate swap for them. Looks like it was me that was half asleep (or something....)
