Miles to a tank?

Post by RS4pete » Sat Dec 01, 2012 12:37 am

If you want to enjoy the car I don't see anyway you'll get 300 mpg+ ... Sure if you drive like Miss Daisy you may get 300+mpg but what's the point? ... You'll be watching the fuel gauge like a hawk while missing out on a beautiful V8 that revs to 8k+

Are you guys sure that you’re driving RS4 and not standard A4 2.0 with RS4 badge on the back…. 300 Miles a tank???? WTF no way. :drink:

The best I’ve ever seen was 200 miles a tank, these cars are for driving, if your concerned with MPG’s don’t buy RS4

RS4 owners get out there and enjoy your cars :nogarors4: :kissmyrings:

How much is tesco 99 where you are mike? One one at the end of my road is £1.36 for 99.

I do a similar commute to you in terms of distance, 20 miles each way.

The first 3-4 miles is getting out of London, the rest is A roads or motorway. I generally get about 220 to a tank and average about 17-18mpg on VPower.

When stuck in traffic the mpg is poor and then when on a clear road you really want to open it up as the engine needs to be revved and used properly on a regular basis.

The only time I have ever had 250+ per tank is on a long motorway trip sitting in 6th gear which was a bit dull.

I think it's about £1.42 £1.45 ish. Go to BP, Shell, Esso, Texaco and it's more like £1.55 to £1.59 (most of the petrol stations round here are motorway service stations).

I just checked, I don't have receipts for Tesco cos I pay at pump and don't get receipt, but have one here for Shell V power and it was £1.499 for 50 litres costing me £75 but that was at petrol station I've never been to before near Burton so proper sticks.

Totally dependant on traffic conditions & driving style.

On a 14 mile each way commute on A-roads/dual carriageway for about 5 miles then a couple of miles through town, I get....
Early morning commute to work 26mpg on the DIS if I sail through all the traffic lights on my route - 22mpg if I don't
Coming home rarely better than 20mpg as a result of congestion.
Personally, I'd advise that if fuel consumption is an issue for you, then don't by an RS4.

Lots of guys on here do 5000 miles per annum or less.
They tend to have an economical daily driver as back-up, therefore fuel consumption isn't a big issue.

Enjoy the V8 - that's what it's there for.
Otherwise buy your BMW.

Between 240-310 off a full tank for me averaging 45-50 miles a day five town miles, ten a-road and 5 country lanes.

The variation in consumption is "S" button application :D and use of cruise control

I doubt you'll regularly see 300 miles per tank, like the others say you can expect 200-250 best with general driving averaged out. Yes if you sit on the motorways all your life then you will see 300 miles per tank, but then why buy an RS4 to sit on the motorway? Stick to a 2 litre diesel if that's all you're using it for.

I normally see around 200-225 per tank, when it's filled up it will show a good range in the dash, but just try and hold back the temptation not to boot it every time you get a bit of open road, or get caught behind a dawdler, it won't happen!...then the range will inevitably drop.

I don't think anyone has bought their RS4 thinking about fuel economy and cost of fuel, esp when most of us also seem to run on 99RON. Just treat the difference in running costs as the cost of your hobby and when you look at it like that the difference isn't that much.

+1

I usually get around 250 miles from a tank, but have seen as little as 150 and as much as 430 -depending on weather and driving style :bigblink:

As has been mentioned on here quite often, when using 98/99 RON fuel the mpg is around 10% better (due to the lower sulphur content meaning the pre-cats get automatically cleaned less often), which means that using 98/99 RON actually gives better mpg by enough to give a LOWER cost per mile - since the price difference is usually less than 10% (7p per litre more on a price of 140p per litre = 5%).
