Real world MPG

Post by RCF » Wed Nov 21, 2012 6:42 pm

Soooo

I'm sure this is covered somewhere but I dont seem to be able to find it in the search... So please can you all either Point me in the direction or let me have some numbers please?

I am looking at both the S4 and the RS4 as my next car... I will be using it for company business so need to strike a balance against the allowance given by my company/government vs me wanting the car :D

I see also the new V6 is coming down in price nicely so would like any feed back on that (MPG wise) as well if practical?

PS does it change the later/earlier model the car?
Cheers In advance
R

Depends entirely on how you drive and the roads you drive on. Here in Cornwall probably low 20s most of the time but easily lower if you cane it. Up to 27-28 on a 80mph motorway/dual carriageway run.

Mmmm I know... If I was just running it for myself then I wouldn't worry.. But when you add 25k ish miles a year to it then how close to 30mpg is a potential issue... ;)

Around London I got 12-16mpg. Now i live in the sticks with no traffic I get about 16mpg when roads are empty and about 18 when a bit busier and I'm stuck behind other cars at the speed limit (60pmph).
On the motorway I get low 20s but I'm always on the throttle then braking, could easily get more if I was that way inclined.

I'm averaging 13.6mpg for the last few thousand miles, lots of short trips and I get my foot down at every opportunity to hear the Milltech and Gruppe M. Got about 25mpg on the trip down to MRC last year when taking it easy and the best was on a 6 miles trip where the computer was showing about 30mpg when the weather was really bad with lots of snow and ice, and I had to drive very gently.

I've been doing very short trips to work 3 miles each way or so, and it's been terrible 15-16 mpg
normal highway 25-26
normal average 19-20 combined

I took a few trips, avg 40 mph, 2 trips, total 200 miles, and avg 31, I was striving to see what I could get
that was OBC, mine reads a bit less than 1 mpg high
I was very impressed
