Waste of time and money - if it gets stolen do you really want it back ?

Plus having stolen recovered on a car hits residuals.

Far better to by gap cover in my mind.

I have a Cobra 5 in mine which was in the car when I got it.

Only brings the insurance down by £9 a year! £1600 to fit, £205 a year to activate - not sure if its really worth it :?

The fact that you're only getting a £9 discount tells you how much the insurance companies value it's worth!

The car would not be getting classed as stolen recoverd as insurance will not be making any form on payment on the car I know this first hand (not on my B7 either)

But it will show up on a police search.

If it was purchased privately, GAP is sh1te as it will only return to market value. If bought thru a dealer though it returns to purchase price.

depends on the search comapny used. some have access others don't. If the car is reported stolen to the police it generally appears.
However there is a grey area - as with most things nowdays there is a time factor and sometimes if a car (particulary tracker ones) are located quickly (say in a matter of hours) then it's possible for it to not be recorded.

As for insurance requiring a tracker - I'd say change insurance companies. Plenty on there that don't require a track esp as the value of an rs4 is dropping to the 18-25k mark.
You generally don't get a massive discount anymore so not worth it for cash advantages. It really comes down to personal preference in having the car back.
One of my companies is a tracker-esque company and yet I don't officially have a tracker on the car (I have some prototype ones etc but thats it). If I had my choice, I'd have 2lb's of C4 instead but thats just me.
