V-power vs Momentum 99
V-power vs Momentum 99
I normally use v-power since I have had the car, recently changed to momentum 99 after shell had been out of stock. I have noticed less kick a 5500rpm, could this be due to fuel? Does anyone run on momentum and still have the "kick"? I have checked the flaps and they work fine. The only other thing I could think of is Catbon build up? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Re: V-power vs Momentum 99
Momentum has a methanol / ethanol / biethanol content - an absolute no no for oldies like my 205. V Power does not.

Re: V-power vs Momentum 99
i believe as stated momentum is normal fuel with an "octane boost", v power according to the shell scientists (in an article i read, maybe lol) is a blended fuel and only made in one refinery, they guarantee 99 ron but there goal is to avgs 99.5 it also has some advanced additive stuff

I run mine on Momentum 99 and all good I still have a strong kick.Eashan wrote:I normally use v-power since I have had the car, recently changed to momentum 99 after shell had been out of stock. IIRC, MRC prefer Tescos Momentum

Re: V-power vs Momentum 99
I've only ever used Momentum in my RS4 - and always had a nice kick at 5500 ... not sure what else might cause a reduction in kick if the flap(s) are working for you ....

Is it not?! A recent change?adsgreen wrote:Unfortunately vpower no longer ethanol free

Re: V-power vs Momentum 99
I use a mix of the two and all fine. i did use 95 when we had the shortage recently and lost the kick.
Its back now though after using a good tank of 99 momentum...

I always use v power, but when i visit my parents for weekend i take opportunity to fill up at the local Tesco with Momentum. Car always seems to go very well on journey back.... may have the edge on the v power, but its negligible really. Had to put half a tank of 95ron on top of half tank of v power due to fuel shortages arecently and that had a negative impact on response and smoothness.

I have put a tank of v power in now to see if I get more of a kick, will see what happens. Car has been back to Audi to check for vac leaks, no leaks found. The only thing I can think of is carbon build up.phil3909 wrote:I always use v power, but when i visit my parents for weekend i take opportunity to fill up at the local Tesco with Momentum. What kind of cost can one expect to get dealers to check for vacuum leaks eashaan? Cheers

Re: V-power vs Momentum 99
I've copied this from some previous post :
Ron isn't really relevant - it's the MON value you want to look for and shell v power has the highest.
(RON is resistance to knocking at low revs/load - MON is the resistance to knocking at high rpm/load. You can have a fuel with a lower RON but higher MON).
Useless fact, but the states quote thei fuel as the average of ROn and MON hence the artificially low looking petrol grades over there.
Momentum is good but does have high Ethanol content and as I found using a rolling road drops torque a bit compared to V-Power. But if you are just doing motorway trips then it is OK and you won't notice the difference.
And finding out from manufacturers isn't easy either.
However I do know shell 99 has a higher mon than tesco 99 and bp 99.

Re: V-power vs Momentum 99
I have now used a tank of v power and the kick is back. (feels awsome). Not sure if this is due to the fuel but I haven't changed anything else. The v power it get through the better the kick.
