Hi forum,
I need rears, and (within 2 months) fronts too. I can get OEM's at 221+vat and rears at 68+vat, thats the default position.
However, I can't help but feel there's quite a bit of Audi tax there - I used to pay less for a set of Pagid blues for a 993 GT2 (also twin pad).
I'm not tracking the car, just road / fast road. I can get EBC's for much much less, but IMO their reputation for being utter pants is well deserved. Meanwhile, Mintex (great motorsport pads on old Fords etc) are about 120 quid for all 4 corners..
Has anyone got any reccomendations? I'm specifically looking to avoid:
Squeal
Pads that chew your disks
Pads that make an awesome car naff
Loads of brake dust.
I know there is a mass of experience on this forum, and I apologise in advance for asking something that is searchable. However, the posts I've searched mainly point to track day focused pads, or "buy EBC reds and you might as well shoot yourself"....
Cheers in advance,
g

Re: The eternal brake pad question
I've been running EBC Yellow Stuff for three years and can only compare against OEM pads on 2 RS4s but my feedback would be they have much better feel, produce less dust and seem kinder to the discs.

I've had Mintex on for around 6,000 miles and no issues, quite a lot of dust tho. After doing a lot if reading and buying new discs all round I decided to buy EBC yellows all round too.

Re: The eternal brake pad question
+1, this 'reputation' EBC have is wide of the mark for road use on RS4's; they are one of the few pads with front wear sensors, less brake dust, better bite, higher retardation and less fade and minimise heatspot development on the discs which the Brembo's are prone to with the softer Pagid's that clog the small cross drilled holes that cause heatspotting. And cheaper to boot with similar longevitymark758 wrote:I've been running EBC Yellow Stuff for three years and can only compare against OEM pads on 2 RS4s but my feedback would be they have much better feel, produce less dust and seem kinder to the discs.
They may not last well on track but day to day they are very good.

Re: The eternal brake pad question
I just got fronts at 135, rears at 65 with a tenner delivery from LK performance:

Could have got the rears for 14 quid cheaper on ebay, but I'd have to bugger on with paypal, and 1 parcel to collect is less harassment than 2.
Thanks to the posters above re. advice on pads, it's appreciated.
