In the metal the new grill looks ok.
Anybody who drives a car with the V10 Gallardo engine is NOT going to miss the turbos, its instant power all the time. I know a lot of S4/RS4/RS6 drivers think they have no turbo lag, but they do, they have just got used to it, instant power as soon as you think about it is very satisfying.
I described the V10 engine's characteristics to one of the greats of Sports car racing, he went straight off to Dr Mischke to arrange for a car to drive, somewhere warm, and this guy's had more turbos than Scotty's had dilithium crystals.

Thanks for the feedback. It'll be interesting to see a car with the new grille in the flesh. Thanks also for further enlightenment about he comments about V10 - I shall just have to wait for one of you guys to offer me a ride LOL. Way out of my league at the moment.

Just to poke a stick in the Termite nest, I can tell you that the V10 Gallardo engine fits in the S4.

That's good new!
Expect a new RS4 to have the new style radiator grill.

See, I told ya!!

Taken from Auto Express web site
Quote:
When the A4 Avant makes its debut in December, there will be two new additions to the engine range. The old 2.5-litre V6 diesel will be replaced by a common-rail 2.7-litre unit, offering 180bhp, while a new 2.8-litre V6 FSI petrol powerplant will be available. An RS4 model will be unveiled in just over 12 months' time, with a 420bhp turbocharged version of the 4.2-litre engine, based on that fitted to the current S4.

So it looks like turbos after all!!!!!!!! It could have done with a bit more power though.

I must say that a lot of you out there sound like you would be major dissapointed if the next RS4 didn't have a pair of turbos strapped to the side of the engine. But don't dismiss natural aspiration (non turbo) just like that without first seeing what Audi will offer.
I think Audi will have some sort of 4.2(+) Fsi V8 producing 400+ hp (probably yet to be decided). It will sound the dogs.... (a V8 will always sound meaner than a V6). I dont quite expect it to rev to 9,000rpm as mentioned in another thread- that a lot of metal to whizz around at that speed.
The only down side to this engine would be a lack of torque -cant see it producing much more than 320lb/ft.

For you turbo-heads you can always dream of a world with 3.2 V6 (not the A3 version -its too tall), Fsi, twin turbo mother with 440hp (cant eclipse the old rs6) and 400lb/ft torque

Speculation.. just pure speculation

I personally feel that to make it a true drivers car and beat the competition it needs to have in excess of 400lb ft of torque, as for comparable performance to the RS6, I think it doesn't matter if the car out performs a car aiming at a different sector, look at the S4 & S6, need i say more?
Can't beat a bit of boost!

Hi guys,

I am going to sign a reservation ticket for the next RS4 on Saturday. My authorised dealer and swiss importator gave me the following infos (do not forget that Switzerland is one of the most demanding country for S and RS models) :

- I told me that the final engine has not been choosen yet (V8 aspirated or biturbo) but is thinks that a biturbo version of the S4 V8 (smaller than the S6 V8) is certainly going to be released with minimum 420hp. Understand me I don't want to start a hot topic with you guys having heard about a V8 aspirated, I just share what I have been told....

- delivery date : fisrt cars to be delivered around September 2005 (in Switzerland)

I am anyway going to sign for CHF 5'000.-- to be able to get one of the fist car. No matter if the engine will be turbo or not (I hope turbos) the next RS4 generation will be a fantastic car.

Let's be patient for 1 1/2 year though.

Ciao

Fab

Patient.... Jesus I can hardly wait..... I don;t care what the engine has - I think the competition have set out their stalls, Audi have some fabulous engines in or out of production at the moment, the next RS4 has to be storming.

I enjoyed the 4.2 S4, I like that car, shape, chassis, gearbox etc. In missano red or sonic blue with serious poke, nice car....
Zero Drama
