Ive got an Avant and used a Saris Bones rack successfully for my bikes several times. Make sure you get the additional straps which are a pair of cushioned rollers at one end and a long piece of strap attached - these feed through the boot and prevent you damaging the roof. Mines a Bones 3, IIRC.

Hi Guys

Got fed up with bikes on roof making a noise or in the car making it dirty. Took the plunge and fitted a towbar for an A4 Avant.

It is illegal for me to tow as the RS4 is not type approved. It is legal for me to use a towbar for a bike rack. As to the issue of a gear box over heating, there is more wind resistance from 3 bikes on the roof than three bikes tucked behind the car

Bought one of these bad boys last week, never cringed so much strapping it too my boot. Took it off at the end of the day and my heart sank when I saw to dents on my bumper......gutted!

Next day to my suprise, they had gone, couldn't believe it.

Anyway, as you say this is a fantastic product, can you please post a picture as to how you position it on your saloon please, don't fancy resting it on the bumper as last time.

My Thule bars from my old A4 and Thule bike carrier both fit on the RS4. Always amuses me seeing peoples reactions to an RS4 with roof bars on!

I have the following for sale for anyone with an Avant in the Leeds area. It fitted both the RS4 and A4 Avants I've had. Everything you need to carry two bikes on roof. Cost about £140 all in.

2 x Thule Freeride 530 cycle carriers
Thule 755 footpack
Thule 120cm Rapid system 761 roofbars

RS4 had to go after break in at home so its just stuck in the cellar as it doesn't fit a Mondeo hatch

I'd buy this lot if your serious about it Jonah. I paid over double that for just 1 carrier and the bars, albeit mine are Audi Bars rather than Thule.
