One thing - quite annoying having to run it in - havent even floored it yet or taken it up to 8k - but then again if I did that I'd probably be in a hedge with SteveC

only 800 miles to go!

Ha ha! Yes, just get those 800 miles done ASAP. Tried launch control the other day - 'interesting' is the word. Think the car thought I was on a smooth, grippy race track and dialled in too many revs!

M3 deal looks good but that must be base spec? Doesn't it need a few £k throwing at it to add nav, decent sound, etc?
Thought for the moment...

...if some mindless ASBO keys your car as happened to my previous S4 then stay positive...they may have had a moments glory in front of their mates but they only did it because they're jealous of you being able to drive it every day! Who drives wins!

M3 has nav and the larger wheels, any specefic extras can be ordered but the additional cost of them must be paid off in full over what ever term you lease it.I've done the maths and for 2 year private lease (paying cat) all in its 19 grand ! I own my RS4 so renting an m3 for nearly 20k for me isn't worth it,fair enough if you've got finance on an rs4 and can get in a newer car for a similar monthly figure but there will be s catch and loss to cover when paying off the rs4,the deal seems good in comparison but your still buying and dealing with new car depreciation and own jack at the end of it.for me if wanted to free up the equity of my car I think selling privatly and me buying an ex fleet tdi would make the most sense.

All these lease deals look very attractive but is there a catch at the end such as alloys marked £xx, excess milage, etc, etc. I thought about a car lease for my wife but I am concerened about hidden cost. Has anyone had any problems at the end of the rental?

I got nailed on excess mileage once and it can be pricey, you have to g into these things with your eyes wide open. I'd rather PCP, that way you can finance buying the car off the agreement and then do with it hat you will and it can be yours. That is the fundamental thing, the car is never really yours so if you like it in the spec it is then it is a great means of ownership. But want to add / change anyhting to it at the start or mid term and it costs.

This is how the numbers work out for me (all figs over 2 year term):

Lease cost is £17k (£564 x 29 instalments + £400 admin)
Keeping the RS4 cost is £17k - this comprises £8k depreciation (guess), £2k warranty, £1k tax disc, £2k brakes/tyres, £4k opportunity cost of capital tied up (£20k @ 10% pa)

So effectively I swapped a 5 yr old car with 70k miles for a new car with 0 miles. :thumb: No brainer for me but I appreciate not everyone will be in the same position as me.

Allowed mileage is 10,000 pa. Excess mileage is 18p (inc VAT) per mile. Stone chips and fair wear and tear is not a problem on hand back - a friend has had lease cars for years and never been treated unfairly in this respect. Yes, if you kurb your alloys you will need to get them repaired but this is not really a big cost and you'd probably do the same if it was your own car anyway.

With my deal I was told that I have the option to buy the car at the end of the term and the price offered is usually very good. Must admit I've not got anything in writing on this but I have seen this happen in practice so have no reason to doubt it. I'm thinking of buying it (as I have run it in properly) and keeping it for 6 months then selling it on with 6 months manufacturer's warranty left. Hoping that I won't feel any depreciation for those 6 months of ownership as well. Time will tell.....

Steve

1. No way would depreciation on your 4 have been 8k over 2yrs
2. I would have skipped a 2k warranty, cars are pretty reliable
3. Opportunity cost @ 10% ... Feck where r u investing your money?!!

I recon keeping the RS 4 would have cost you £10k over 2years

You have forgotten to add tyres and service costs to the m3 lease budget,it won't be a lot less than what your rs4 was going to need, the me in 20k will deffo need pads and tyres so only saving on discs against the Rs,can't see 8k deppreciation on the Rs over next two years but may get towards that who knows? I calculated a total if 21k to lease the m3 for 2 years inc tyres/maintenance

Depreciation is always a guess and that is mine. If a new RS4 comes out in the next 2 years it won't help values of the B7.
If you forego the warranty it will be easy to spend £2k on repairs over the next 2 years - clutch, DRC etc. As the car gets older it will cost more and more in repairs.
Actual return is 10.5%pa. Not guaranteed I grant you but all I need is for the FTSE to end the year higher than it is today in any of the next 4 years so I'm pretty confident.
