That's a good figure but it really cheeses me off that our cars are supoosed to be more than that standard and clearly are not. Does anyone with a standard car achieve the actual quoted Audi power figure of about 420bhp??

Great thread. Pictures really show how much crap builds up over time. Loved the "1 piece of carbon" = 2bhp!!!

Well, my 2 cents are...

I moved to Italy in june and picked up an RS4 in Monza (at least it´s an inspiring location...) at the end of july. Long long time Audi fan and owner, a founding member of Brazil's "Audi S Club", but my first RS. I was already aware of the carbon problem, and also the DRC, but that is unheard of in Italy and there´s no TSB or recall for that, so if anyone has any concrete document, I would appreciate :biggrin2:

Now, for the sad part... after getting flashed and run over by a V8 M3 at over 200km/h, I knew something was off... (Northern Italy rocks, very little radars and visible when present, and you cant drive on the fast lane at less than 150km/h.)

I had covered a lil over 7000km in these two months, kicking it into 60.000km so when it showed me the low oil light I topped it off with the right one and scheduled some maintenance to check the DRC recall (still unheard of), suspension noise, the clutch vacuum line which was annoying and the carbon buildup.

To cut it short, the whoooole transmission + engine is out for the carbon cleaning, :bash: since they literally never saw this problem or had to clean the valves, so they took it all down to remove the valves and clean them. Plus come monday I should go back and tell them to work on the manifold also... Aaaaanybody wanna guess what we're looking at here in Euros? About 3000, since its 1600 for the disassembly/reassembly plus the cleaning. Throw in another 500 or something to replace a burned lambda and a leaky front shock, and we're in the 4k territory. That´s over USD 5500 for you with a stateside disposition.

The car came with the Audi Prima Scelta Plus warranty that covers 24 months, but my shop of choice is not in that program (!!!!!) and let me guess, carbon cleanup wouldn't be covered, shocks are wear items and the lamba sensor is the smallest of my concerns. And apparently Italian owners are not really united or even aware of their rights or their cars' problems for that matter. Imagine the number of R8s with carbon problems. Why oh why doesn't the US have an elective residence visa? jeeeeeez.

Since I just saw those inspiring cleaning pictures (WTG DazN! :rocker: ) and realized its a much simpler job, at least I know I can do it myself in the future.

Bright side? Tranny down, Sachs Performance clutch incoming from Germany :jump_clap: and at least now I know I'm committed to this car for the duration! That Black Lady better put out.

I think I'm going for the catch can although KMD has no automatic international shipping. Anyone know a good catch can in Europe?

Cheers!
Black 4.2 RS4 Avant, Titan wheels.
Going for K&N, flat bottom steering, LED rear lights, Dectane headlights, Milltek or Tubi exhaust.
May Sachs Performance rot in hell.

The catch can at best will collect a drop of oil as has been proven by several members here, don't waste your money. DRC you should contact Audi Germany and ask then, IIRC the same issue was apparent by Spanish members and Audi sent a tech to Spain to fix the issue. But I don't understand why the whole engine and transmission is out for cleaning as the carbon is in the manifold and on the top of the valves, not anywhere else? Do you have any pics?

Will take more pictures on monday, for now just a couple of the dirty valves..
I don't understand either, and it doesn't look like a scam because the technician was very surprised I was asking for a valve cleaning, and I specifically mentioned to remove the IM to do it...
Italians...

Will take it up with Audi Germany, thanks!

haaaaaaa that's my work from back in the day! That was when some believed carbon was not a problem. Most have come to realise now that it is, but there are still some non-believers among us ha :-)

My standard car made 390ps last week

Similar to mine, did a dyno run at mrc about march time And got 390ps. Again on a 06 plate with 40 k on the clock at the time but no miltek. JUST had it back though after a port and polish, Stage 2 remap and CAF.........now making 438ps :biggrin3: also got a miltek non res valved on...sounds awesome

Well worth the work car pulls like an animal.
