Are red ones worth more or less

Post by bigsteve » Fri Aug 05, 2011 6:49 pm

maybe its a silly question but are RS4's in red worth more or less as a general guide.
I know its personal preferance but when i had a red BMW 330D it was a barsteward to shift.

Thanks

red is worth less (not worthless lol) as a colur

not as bad as yellow, but as the official RS colours go, its the 2nd worst depreciating colour

before the haters come on, this isnt specific to the RS 4 ... its for all premium cars

Dave's right - when I was looking last year I had a rather sad spreadsheet looking at average prices...

Red was about £450 cheaper across the cars I was looking at - still bought one mind. Strangely the most expensive of any cars I looked at and easily the best one. I did find Black cars were worth more but looked really bad stone chipped.

Cheers Paul

+1 Once you step away from what some would call "common" colours your limiting appeal to the majority and the trade will reflect this in bids! Some argue rare but it usually means unpopular otherwise everyone would of ordered it in that colour eh? There was a post on p...heads from a member on there thats from audi specialist fontains stating a discount on an r8 was unlikey unless it was red and poor spec etc,all cars sell if the price is right but i would want to be at least 2k under for red

its all relative

in 2 years, once depreciation has run its course, there will be very little in price of colours

but whilst they still cost £20+k ... undesirable colours will take a hit

Has anyone ever owned one of those green ones - I'd be interested how they're priced?

I've only ever seen a couple, both with wood trim....

. . I'm in the market for a low mileage Avant at present, and would consider a red one as they seem pretty rare. The one that sold a couple of weeks ago was stunning, helped by the fact it had black optics, Sport Suspension, ..and Ceramic brakes  8)
RS2 for 8 years / 100k miles

All press sporting Audi's from the UR onwards (except RS2; RS Blue/ RS4 B5 Met Blue) are red. Kinda makes them more desirable in my book... :-)
Financial difference for a 4 yr old car?.... you would need to compare like for like (milage, definitive condition etc) to get a true answer but i'd guess it's negligable..

I'd never buy a red car - they attract too much of the wrong sort of attention (plod, boy racers and tea leafs).

I have (touch wood) never been stopped by plod and never been challenged by a boy racer.

I was also of the opinion that i wouldnt want a red car - until i saw the RS in the flesh - looks better than it does in photos. Just a bit different than the usual grey i had always had before.

TBH a car (or anything else for that matter) is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it regardless of colour. If you don't want red then don't buy red.....simples.

Also never been stopped by plod, very rarely get any boy racer/neds sporting for a race.

Also red is a lucky colour (in China anyway).
