Found what the burning smell was...

Post by sonny » Mon Jul 04, 2011 7:25 pm

Past few days have been smelling a burning smell in stop start traffic, I was thinking it was my heat reflective tape starting to burn up after having the Aux rad taken out.

Jacked the car up today and found this.

Its a plastic shopping bag that has stuck and melted itself to my exhaust pipe. Great!

I had this happen before. A few long drives (due to the exhaust temp) will get rid of the worst of it.

I avoid driving over carrier bags for this very reason; don't care how silly it looks to the driver behind me as I swerve away as if I'm avoiding a dead person on rd lol.

I was on the M25, was committed to my lane, could not avoid. I did see the bag and observed rear view mirror, no sign of bag, I thought it was on the grill.

By the way it was a M&S bag, only shop in Waitrose :<beep>_you:

M&S bags are the worst kind. They have no friends and were abused when they were little bags. You only have to show them a bit of warmth and kindness and they stick to you like.....melted plastic.

WTF - The mad thing is I have just been experiencing exactly the same event. Strange smell....couldnt quite place it thought it smelt waxy?!?! After several days of weird smell (that only showed up after driving hard!)only yesterday I had to have a look under and I had the SAME thing - but mine was a Tesco bag, and in exactly the same place. What are the chances of us both having that almost at the same time?!?!? or am I being a 'tard? :bash:
