My EML light is on (orange one). Fault code shows secondary air injection system. I think my used to make this noise but doesn't anymore.
I know this car isn't an RS4 but listen to this link. Does your car make this whining noise?

If you have a secondary air injection fault then either the pump has given up or is failing, the vacuum system is leaking or an air hose has come off.
Do you have Vag Com?
