Coding new key

Post by blelock » Mon Jun 27, 2011 9:22 am

Audi want £75 to code a replacement key. I have the new key, it just needs coded. Surely it can be done elsewhere? Can VCDS do it?

Iirc VCDS can code the key to open the car but to pair it with the immobiliser and use it to start the car then this can only br done at a dealer using special equipment Nd a link back to Audi Germany.

VCDS can code the key, however to code the key you need the SKC which you can only sensibly get via Audi connecting the car up to its system, even then it is a rolling code so only valid temporarily. Older cars you used to be able to pull the SKC with vagtacho but this doesn't work on our instruments. There may be some othere software that will pull the SKC but when I looked (about 2 years ago) I coudn't find any. It is good for security that the SKC can't be readily accessed although a nuisance for owners when they want to carry out simple tasks like this.

If when you get the key paired you can persuade them to tell you the SKC it could still be useful as in VCDS as an old SKC can be used in conjunction with the date & dealer number but they will probably say they can't see it.

i believe the dealer do not even see the SKC code these days so not much chance of getting it.
