DRC 1 SHOCK REPLACED - RATTLING NOISE & SEAT NOT INFLATING

Post by polecat » Thu Apr 28, 2011 9:12 am

After posting yesterday, regarding the replacement of my front offside shock & valve, and recharge system to 15 bar, I now have some problems that didnt exist before I put the car in on Tuesday, these being,

(1) Rattling noise coming from area of replaced shock, on normal driving, and a banging when going over manholes, cats eyes or unven road (at first I thought a spanner or socket had maybe been left in the engine bay or that vicinity, but cannot see anything. - This problem was not evident prior to shock being replaced etc.

(2) Steering wheel, on turning the wheel when the car is staionary, again, a very similar type of rattling is evident.

(3) Sports button - drivers seat wont inflate on pressing button, it does however, inflate manually with switches to side of seat!!!!

Any ideas guys - im really hacked off, could these problems all be connected, considering they didnt exist on Tuesday morning when I dropped the car off at Audi.

The car will be going back, so, any similar experiences or diagnosis, would be greatly appreciated, before I lamp someone at the garage.

Thanks

3) Check in the DIS that you have sports seat "ticked" when in sports mode, This sometimes gets disabled when in a workshop (for what ever reason).

Sonny - followed your advice, checked with manual, and the sports mode was unticked, so now its ticked, and sports button inflates seat.

why on earth dont the lazy bar stewards put everything back as it should be, after having your car??????????

last time, they changed the valves in my tyres and didnt reset the computer, so I was getting warnings that the tyre pressures were wrong!

Cheers - 1 down, 2 to go,

Not sure, I think when the battery is disconnected it resets the DIS information. Have a look to see if your other information has been wiped too such as OBC1 and OBC2 driver settings.

Regarding your other questions, if your not happy with any of the work carried out then take it back to the garage/dealership.

Just an update on these clunking and clonking noises, when I took the car back to Audi after DRC replacement front shocker, re-charge and new valve.

I took the car back to the garage, went out for a test drive with the Technician, who could clearly hear the noise clonking from the OSF Wheel arch, and on turning the steering wheel,

while the car was staionary, a similar sound was mimicked......He said it sounded like DRC, I agreed, but also said it sounded like something not sitting correctly or not tightened correctly on suspension or steering arm, or maybe a spanner/socket left insitu??

So, he popped it into the workshop for a look just incase any other shocks had burst,,,,,in the meantime, I enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee.

After about 25 minutes the Technician re-appeared, with the service manager, and he said, no leaks visible (I just lauhged), then they proceeded to say, well, we will need to strip down parts, bla bla bla,,,,,,,and but Oh, it could be your new after market yellow stuff pads rattling around in the caliper.........,,well I was surpised it took them so long to blame something else.

At this point, I said, enuf is enuf,,and was about to tell the to; FO, Foxtrot Oscar - when I decided, no im not having this, and advised, this was nonesense, and Glen at Revolution would back me up, after they had just done job,,,,so, car was booked in for return to Audi to dismantle on 23rd May.

On leaving garage, Immediately, after pressing the ignition button, I smelled a rat, the clonking from the steering wheel had gone, and driving out of the carpark, and across a few cats eyes,,,,the rattling and clonking had completely disappeared. So I took the most bumpy, potholed and uneven roads home from garage, to my home, which is about 12ish miles, and I could not hear or replicate the clonking rattling noise,...and, it is still quiet as a mouse today.

Now, isnt it very coincidental, that, before they took the car into the workshop, rattling and clonking, witnessed by Audi Techy and Manager, and then driving it away, its completely disappeared.

Obviously, Audi cant explain how this happened, as I asked them to stop pissing me about, and tell me what they did in the workshop, or did they remove the socket or spanner???LOL,,,,and also it means Glens team dont have to check the pads arent sliding around in the calipers making this noise!!!,,,if they ever were.

Well im happy at moment, car running fine, but I have the car booked back in for a final pressure test, a few weeks before Hicks warranty letter runs out on my car, and will be closely looking at sweating or condensation marks around shocks......what a load of bollocks,,,,,I explained to Audi,,,its like saying your missus is a little bit pregnant,,,daft twats.

Bear in mind the DRC clunk improves after driving the car for 10-15 minutes as the system warms up - try it again in the morning when cold and see if its OK.

The clunking/rattling noise has disappeared altogether, both from freezing cold start, and or warm 20 mins driving, that is, both noises and vibrations have disappeared from the steering wheel and wheel arch area, and the car doesnt rattle you to death on driving over a pound coin in the road.

Funny isnt it, I wonder what magic they waved over the car inside 20 mins on the ramp????........but still, hey, those yellow stuff pads have stopped rattling around in the calipers!!!!,,as if.

Wonder what it was, must have been a spanner/lose part etc and they resolved the issue :audibash:

You would just love all in the car trade to be honest ;)
