Or an Alpina D3. I wouldn't call the owner of an Alpina a cock, matter of fact I'd prob shake their hand.

TimDogg wrote:Yep guys - all useful comments, I have a skateboard in the garage and the roads in Afghanistan aren't really the best for the RS4 - actually, I can't think of a better car to have out here - if it was fully armoured! The BMW 335d still seems pretty expensive - over 30k with 40k miles on for 2-3 years old - ouch...

Maybe I need an orange focus ST chav-mobile, so sad.........
You dont need to spend that!

335D? i had one for 3.5 years before the Rs4 ... twas remapped to 340BHP/730nM

Great mix (on paper)... economy (42mpg over 40k+ miles) pace V close to 0-60 5sec standing 1/4 13.3s and a pretty good drive...

BUT once you get used to the relentless torque...its as dull as ditch water, I think if that engine could be had with a manual box it might be much better

I prob should have had a 335 petrol which I drove a year after getting the denzel....much more fun

tim,

I ran a SEAT Exeo 170 TDI sport for 9,000miles last year

It was superb

They now come in "tech" spec, which includes the RNSE dvd sat nav, BOSE sound system, leather sports seats ... i think standard spec are auto lights / wipers, cruise control, bluetooth etc

I can imagine when remapped to 200+bhp they are quite rapid

returned 60mpg easy and I booted it !

It looks good and is great VFM, but you have missed the no VAT offer

the great thing is, its basically a B7 A4, except your missus will think its spanish and so not be worried about the german marque effect !!

Coming from the Zed camp to an RS4 ... I'd recommend taking out a 370z for a test drive. Your wife will love it....

Me and our lass got a dog, so i offered to change my RS4 Cab for a more sensible Q7 or similar. She spent a long time convincing me that the RS4 was what i'd worked for.

I don't want to get rid but may have to for a year or two and as i also work abroad might be an option....

Then I looked on Autotrader and saw that I can pick up a decent Aston Martin DB9, 5 years old less than 25k miles for up to 40k...

Insignia VXR or VXR8? Former still has 4WD, huge inside and a good engine, latter you still get the V8 to play with. Both can be had for your budget and fairly new.

I loved the car, just had a few issues like missing service, second car had straight through pipes.....so not all as rosy as "approved" lexus as I thought.

Would buy another one although my wife would only have a white one....and at the time, both white ones for sale as approved Lexus cars where the ones we had problems with. They are both still up for sale (easy to find as they are both white) but personally I wouldn't go near them with a barge pole especially the one down south as I'm sure they will fit a standard exhaust and flog it off as a "nice" well cared for example.

sorry mate thats bad news,
how ever the solution has been stated, file 13 for the wife, or take the keys with you and let her catch the bus and or walk for your next trip away, she will soon change her mind sluming it on a manky bus, or trudging home in the pissing rain.

swap your RS4, iv been looking for over a year and theres not any thing better out there at the moment unless you want to spend over 70k+.
take it easy
