after all the things Ive had go wrong with mine I'm now worried about the drc, thats the only thing that's still original on my car i just cant be doing with all the hassle anymore, i love my car and its mint and low mileage and its got nearly every option in the book, it took me a year of searching to find it. i could also do with a car that the missus is comfortable driving, she struggles to drive it smooth and is paranoid about it. i don't need to spend on mine its got new discs/pads/hoses all round ,new clutch/flywheel, full engine service oil/filters/plugs, 4 p zeros 3 k ago

I've never really understood applying any sort of financial logic to owning and running any sort of serious performance car - I drive one because I cherish the experience and expect to pay for that and am happy to do so. horses and courses I suppose!
I seem to cherish the experience more as time goes on tbh
Watch this when I get withdrawal symptoms too....

Somebody somewhere is complaining their bluemotion is just costing them far more than they expected and it has to go.....

You will lose similiar.Steve_C wrote:I'll be disappointed if I lose that much in 2 yrs. Still, £8k isn't too bad considering the performance/quality.aidanjaye wrote:8k actually for two years warranted car
Most performance cars, to a certain extend depreciate the same (%). Buy a new Golf GTI at 24 K and see what its worth in 2 years (i did and its was shocking). Try the V8 M3 - much the same.
All in all, the RS4 has been great - and the 4k a year it cost me was well worth it. Will I miss it - you bet. Do I regret trading it - not sure. Is it the sensible option (what with more and more unwarranted rs4s on market) - definately.
Cheers Arthur, will do.did think about a m3 but think they look to like a basic 3 series....in looks.
For others,
I except running costs of performance cars but it comes to a point when if financial its time 4 a change, so be it. I'm not expecting the ISF to be cheap but a 30 month newer car for not much more than I would end up spending on the rs4, the fact that the more rs4s come on the second hand market the harder it'll be to get book price, and general warranty crap from audi, has brought decision.
I do normally change my cars every two years as well.

If you buy from a main or specialist dealer and px it a month later you will blow £4k straight away. You will lose similiar.

It's not depreciation that's blown your £8k, it's the method of buying from an expensive source and selling via the cheapest least hassle route.
Also you aren't selling it with the same mileage you bought it and the reduction in its value due to extra mileage strictly speaking isn't depreciaton.
I bet the trade value of your car when you bought it is little different from its retail price now if the mileage had stayed the same.
I know of someone who bought a nice S4 for £14500 from Audi in Dec 2010, didn't like it and Fontain offered £9k-£10k a week later, eventually an independent gave him £11k.
I bought my 1 doctor owner minter from a non-Audi main dealer in June, didn't buy it through the trade but their warranty was rubbish so told them to keep it. as it stands I'd say mine still worth £2k more than I paid. I have spent some money on it but only because I am fussy, could have put pads on instead of discs and pads and RNS-E was fitted.
Having said that it will go down but its the first car that I really dont care if it does because of the pleasure it gives me driving it, knowing it's tucked up in my garage or playing around with the minor issues that come up. But I don't drive it daily, if I did I'd be bored after much less than 2 years and remember the plural is lexi

listen, if your hapy with thhat approach then fine, but the bottom line for me is, it has to make sense. I couldnt care less what something actually costs in terms of purchase price, but the depreciation curve has to be acceptable, as do the running costs.Plodwyn wrote:I dont get it surely if your going to own one of these cars you know your financial outlay beforehand? Its going to be expensive so why bother buying in the first place and moan about how much its going to cost to run?
i lost 17k in 10 months on an e60 M5 which i bought brand new in 2005. I was/am still of good financial footing but that was an unexpected and bitter pill. My 997 turbo lost 6k in 3 months. Thas life, but these things are scaleable and given rs4's are now mid 20k cars i think 10k a year is pretty much unnaccetable, which was teh anticpated cost of another 12 months in my spring blue avant.
the thing that really put me off keeping my rs4? the ever growing list of niggles and the inability and reluctance of audi to accept and resolve them.If Mrc was closer i may have reconsidered, but it isnt, and i'm a busy boy, so am not schlepping around the country to get things sorted. I buy a car with a warranty, and i expect to be able to give it to a dealer who knows what they are doing, and is willing and enthusiastic about getting me and my prized posession sorted and smiling again. Audi policy towards cars outside of 3 years is quite frankly shocking....
its a combination of things really.
i'd have another, but having had 2, its time for me to move on, certainly for the time being.
To be fair the only thing I find expensive about our cars is the fuel. Servicing and parts are actually relatively cheap imo
Last month I had to purchase a new window screen, I did not go claim on insurance, went direct to local dealer, cost £320 all in. A friends BMW Mini cost nearly £800 all in to replace.
Regarding depreciation. I paid £44k for mine just over 3 years ago...

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
I totally get why you want to sell. I fell back in love with the RS4 recently and going to see second hand cars and having the dissapointment of the Avant I purchased and gave back 24hours later finally confirmed to me why I should continue to buy new. I like the D3s especially in estate form. Extras are expensive and I think subject to a ridiculous additional option charge. Nav for example is 1900 ish on a normal car yet something like 2300 on an Alpina.
