Im thinking bad fuel, something similar happened to me once when I had to use Sainsbury's own.

Im sure a misfire will show as the EML flashing. Coil Pack, im sure you will be able to feel the engine vibrating different due to it firing on 7 cylinders
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

am going to discuss with the tech as to what the problem is and we can go from there.

Keep us in the loop.

I've got 4 hrs of motorway driving on Thursday so I'll try with fresh super unleaded and see if there is any difference.

Don't floor it - if it feels hesitant it could be retarding so much that it is pinging. Get vagcom on it and check codes, actual timing and timing <beep>. A dealer is bad if they can't find it as they should go out in the car and log or look realtimne. We use dealer software as you can have faults codes pending with no fault codes logged in vagcom.

its intermittant doug, it does it sometimes and not others..

had a good run tonight to get it mapped out in my head, and in fourth gear, when i accelerate under near full or full load its a bit spluttery at about 4.3, doesnt boost at 5.5 and then struggles to get past 6.3...

let it coast back down and do it again and its fine...

i pulled up outside a shop, out the car for about 5 mins, then back in and pulled out briskly nd again about 4.3 is hit its flatspot...

if they cant sort it, its either coming to you for a fettle or i'm getting rid....

they should know what the potential problems are at the end of the day is my only gripe, and if i'm honest, they are all good people, just lacking the depth of knowledge that would allow them to get this sorted...

sounds like a vacuum leak to me to cause it to run low timing or it is running low timing becasue it is retarding for whatever reason.

re vacumn leak - have you disconnected the vacumn tubes from the exhaust valves? if so maybe whatever you used to blank the vacumn tube might have come out?

why did you put back to stock? maybe the car is punishing you for restricting the noise?
