Just had my car in for a service yesterday at my local dealer, tried scam me for adjusting the washer jets (15min labour) and an aircon cleanse (£85!!!) on top of the huge wedge I was already paying. Tried to get them to check the software but just can't seem to get through to them. They are experts until challanged and then the buck is swiftly passed to the unavailable technican then they keep talking nonsense until you give up and run screaming from the showroom. Just ruins the whole ownership thing.

I run Comma Aircon Cleaner spray a couple of times a year in my car. It's £12 from Halfords and takes 15-20 minutes to complete the process. £85 sounds a tad expensive to me unless it includes regassing of the aircon.

I was told my discs were nearly gone at my last service, and being tight I decided to wait until the DIS light up - and lo, 8 months and 7k miles later they seem fine!

The £85 does include a re-gassing but they had aleady told me the gas was fine. Absolutely nothing wrong with the aircon but I have gone and got one of those Comma Aircon cleaners and will do it anyway.
I'll give them a few more days to sort themselves out before I name and shame.

I got a letter from my local dealer saying my car was due a free ecu upgrade but when asked my preferred dealer they said nothing was flagged and everything already done. I was confused until I re-read the letter and my local dealer was including a free 'check'. I'm now thinking that their using this check to look for work?

This is very common practice and in theory it's a good thing. However again you are at the mercy of their honesty as with any check. The fact they are trying hard to get you in would make me think they wouldn't miss any opportunity to exploit.
Same with free MOTs.

Common maybe but other marques I own (both higher and lower than Audi) are more honest about it and dont try to indicate that there's a problem with the car when there isn't. Doesn't inspire confidence at all.
(btw the local dealer is also the same one who after two hours of investigation point blank denied any policy on drc)

I too was offered the £85 air con clean at my last service, but to be fair the guy said there's no point in doing it if I'm not getting any funny smells.
Both services I've had there they've adjusted both front and back washer jets without me asking, FOC. (At least there wasn't a line item for it on the bill!) . TBH, Id have thought it would be included in the service.
