Steering Question

Post by dave_uk » Fri Nov 26, 2010 8:10 pm

HI All,

On my 07 cab i have noticed that when I pull away slowly from cold on full steering lock i.e. when moving forward out of a parking space I get a sort of juddering and it feels like the tyres are slipping :?:

Is this normal or do I need to get the steering looked at? Or is it just a cold tyres / damp surface / 4wd sort of thing?

Cheers in advance,

Dave

Absolutely normal, and definitely more noticeable in the cold. The experts amongst us have given reasons in the past, but I can't remember them!

I've noticed this too. It's a horrible feeling isn't it. Makes me think there's a flat tyre, every time.

Ahh I thought it was tread block slippage

Ok seriously, thanks for the feedback and I guess no need to worry.

Hi Guys
Does it mean the tyre is trying to come off the allow wheel?
Cheers

No, it means that the blocks of rubber are being pulled against the tarmac by rotational forces. Basically the tread in contact with the surface of the road is moving at different speeds (as the steering isn't straight). Some of the rubber has to 'catch up' eventually so gets pulled against its will.

Have realy noticed this over the last week on cold wet surfaces and with tyres also getting near the end of their life. Happens more on full right lock than full left lock though - is it normal to be more noticable turning in one direction than the other?

I always notice it more going up multi storey car-parks to the right in the wet?
