Insurance hike

Post by marcr » Sat Nov 13, 2010 11:46 am

I have just renewed my insurance and as Admiral prices on my multi car policy had gone up I was sure I could shop around for a better deal. (as I always do)

I have been genuinely surprised how much companies want. I am 37 , full ncb, never had an accident, no points, low risk postcode etc, standard car parked on drive.

Greenlight £1372
Adrian Flux £872
Direct Line £650
Tesco online, won't insure
NFU £2000 plus

Ended up staying with Admiral for circa £500.

we could all be in for an unpleasant bill come renewal time. :(

The £500 is on a multicar, last year it was under £300. More surprised at the other quotes from specialist companies TBH

Really interesting post, especially as I have just last week phoned up for renewal quotes and chnage of car and I am with Admiral too.

I just phoned up again this morning to get some actual concrete figures

I have an Admiral Multi-Car with a 2004 Peugeot 206 SW 1.4 and a Mitsi Evo 6 and 13th of nov 09 was £420 for the Evo and £250 for peugeot after the discount applied... I received the renewal and they wanted £768 and £370 !!!!!!! WTF

I asked them to remove the Evo as has just sold and quote for an RS Avant... they told me £699 !!!

Has insurance just gone crazy this year, we are 40 and 44 with a good risk profile.

Are there any specialist insurance companies out there please that people have used.

Thanks

I think insurance has increased a fair bit in the last 6 months. My £500 was also a multicar quote.

One company told me increases of 40% this year on premiums, WTF, guess profits are down. I have tried the main specialists with the figures I quoted above, not good at all

The subject of insurance premium increases was on BBC a week ago. Expect a 40% average increase in premiums all round. Reasons most companies are giving is that, due t the GFC, there have been a lot more claims (some of which are supposedly fraudulent). Some people have seen their premiums jump 100%+, or so they reported.

Mine has jumped from 1600 to 2300. I think I'm gonna go for the Xs direct instead, rather than renew , which has a mega high xs of £3000 but quote is £1300......however it doesn't use ur no claims discount which is a shame if u have over 9 yrs like me but it thus allows u to use ur ncd against another car.

Yes, annual premiums. How do they compare to the US?
