Navigation Disc Question
Navigation Disc Question
I purchaed an OEM navigation disc from Ebay a few weeks ago.
I noticed the disc underside is Blue Tinted, and suspect it may be a fake, being sold as an OEM.
Can someone please confirm if the 2010 nav disc is like the previous years and a standard silver underside, or now has a blue underside to the disc.
Thanks in advance, i hope this makes sense, just want to know if i have been ripped off.

RE: Navigation Disc Question
Blue tinted = copied disc, not a pressed original Audi disc.
I have a genuine 2010 (AN suffix) DVD and it's silver.

I'll second that.PetrolDave wrote:Blue tinted = copied disc, not a pressed original Audi disc.

RE: Re: RE: Navigation Disc Question
I bought 3 genuine disks from ebay, they were fake and I contacted the seller and informed them I would be talking to Audi, my money was refunded and I kept the disks. Result.
But this happened to a customer of mine....
Just had a guy around for a fault on his A6, basically his disk became unreadable in the navigation system. Audi told him he need a new disk, yeah right. Well Audi's price was too much at £220 + VAT, so he bought a "genuine" 2010 disk from a well known sat nav company in SW London. Of course this did not work either.
I had a look at the unit and the disks he had, the genuine disk from 2006, perfect condition, no scratches and the new 2010 "genuine" disk he had purchased. I immediately noticed the poor print quality of the disk surface and when I flipped the disk over it was obviously a copy. I didn't know how much the guy had paid for the disk at this time, I just assumed maybe a tenner or so. I don't have a problem with copy disks at all as it's nice to get something for nothing now and then.
So to cut a long story short, the nav unit in the boot was replaced and everything was fine. I supplied a free 2009 copy to test. The guy then said I'd better return this 2010 disk for a refund as it didn't fix the problem and that's when I saw the receipt.
£189 + PP + VAT, now this disk is an obvious copy to me, I've seen enought to know. So how does a reputable company get away with selling fake goods at retail prices?

I have left it with Paypal to dispute. I paid £60 for the disc, it works ok, but i didnt want a copy, and he certainly shouldn't be advertising it as genuine.
I noticed a week after i purchased the item he was removed from ebay, so hopefully this will strengthen my paypal case as i am sure i was not the first to find a problem with him.

Do Audi only release one new sat nav DVD per year? I have a 2010 disk but wondering if there is now a "2010.2" available?

In most years Audi only release one new map DVD - 2009 was an exception because they needed to support the new 2010 version of the RNS-E.mark758 wrote:Do Audi only release one new sat nav DVD per year? I have a 2010 disk but wondering if there is now a "2010.2" available?
According to my sources, the 2011 DVD is due out in November in Europe - which means Jan/Feb in the UK.

RE: Re: RE: Navigation Disc Question
I have just noticed that the new disc (was using 2007 before) now displays the petrol station logos themself, rather than a generic petrol station logo. I prefer shell and find this a useful feature with driving about.
Were there any other changes like this ?

Not that I've noticed or that are mentioned on the DVD sleeve.lugars4 wrote:Were there any other changes like this ?
Most of the changes affect the 2010 RNS-E because the 2010 map DVD has a new software version for that (0150), but for the per-2010 RNS-E it's the same old software (0650).
The new maps do have one problem near my home - the 2010 map suggests I drive along a road that was closed over 30 years ago (the 2009 maps don't have that problem), so it looks like as well as adding new roads Navteq revised some other roads and didn't always get it right!
Definitely a copy (blue-purple underside)? Seems expensive for a copy at £60??? I got a copy last week for £35 (Western and Eastern Europe, so 2 x discs) and seller was upfront and honest about it, so I decided to risk it. No problems and very happy with it to be fair. Got it from navmanjon@yahoo.co.uklugars4 wrote:I have left it with Paypal to dispute. The problems don't appear straight away, but the extra strain on the laser reading a copied DVD eventually causes it to fail much sooner.Shiner58 wrote:No problems and very happy with it to be fair.
Audi don't sell replacement lasers or even DVD drives, but there are people on other sites that sell them with fitting instructions - and they do a good trade, mostly due to drives failed after using copied DVDs.
