The manifold it's self is metal as already pointed out so there isn't anything else that could cause the problem. If it is the flaps I don't know if they can be replaced on their own but usual Audi form is to replace rather than repair.
If you are out of warranty I'd get it to a Specialist for a 2nd opinion and cheaper labour rates - You won't go wrong with MRC. That said all of the faults listed are well known issues so I would definitely try Audi UK first.
What's the history of the car?
Car is out of warrenty but has full Audi service history and covered just under 47k miles, front discs have been replaced under warrenty twice i believe (previous owner), I've had the car for 12 months and no issues up until now.

That said and pertaining to RS4V8's comment, did they say which senor needed the whole inlet manifold replacing? Mine is the tumble flap sensor and you can replace the sensor without the manifold and IIRC they are the only sensors in the manifold?
Not doubting you but curious.
Others have covered DRC, new oil cooler can be had on E-bay from £300 and TPS for much the same. IIRC Motorwerks is your nearest independent, see what they say but take it for a 2nd opinion if out of warranty and you don't want to pay Audi prices. About tyres and brakes however, some dealers will price match, may be worth asking if yours will. Brakes £500 per pair of discs.
Dealer hasn't commented on which code came up but I'I ask when I call, the Emissions control system light is on continuesly and sometimes the EPC light comes on but goes back off after a couple of mins.

Kenny, it could be one and the sams fault code trigger both engine management and EPC. If an EPC is triggered by the same code a set number of times it gets recorded in the ECU and engine management comes on in tandem or instead.
When the light is on, do you find a rev limiter at 7k rpm instead of 8250? Almost like it is misfiring?

Yip, exactly that, wife says since they cleared the code, she's never seen the EPC light come on but the emissions light is back on constantly

Hmm, not sure Kenny. Could be they cleared it from the OBD II memory but not the ECU one. It really doees depend on what the code is. If you can find out we sould be able to tell you independently what the code is for.

I suspect it was the same local dealer that told me last Thursday that my front brake pads were 85% worn and the discs were below the minimum wear limit (31.7mm vs 32.0mm). Might be fair enough on the last point but they were not touching them until I've measured them for myself, not to mention that I can get the parts far cheaper elsewhere. Only used them this time as I was pushed for time to take the car to Highland Audi where I usually go.
Back in May with the wife's car they tried to tell me it needed new wipers when I'd fitted new Audi OEM ones the day before and also that the rear brake pads were 70% worn. Sourced pads myself and when I went to fit them found out that their 70% assessment was rather generous.
Years ago when I took my B5 S4 there it came away with a list of £2,500 of work that they said needed done. Went to Aberdeen Volks after that and I think I had the car a couple of years before some of the things they listed finally needed done.
Love the car, hate the dealers....

I never trust dealers.
Took my other halfs BMW 120d to the stealer the other day. They had an URGENT advisory that the car needed 4 new tyres fitted at a cost of over a grand !! I was surprised at this statement as I knew the tyres were only a few months old, so we measured them and 3 tyres came out over 5.5mm of tread and one was 4.8mm !!

Spoke to the workshop manager today and he tells me that there is 2 plastic arms that operate flaps inside the manifold and that they get worn, apperently this is quite common??? and they cannot be replaced on there own!!!
I can only think that if the flaps are not opening all way it sends a fault code? I havent noticed any drop off in performance.
I think I might purchase a couple of gaskets and remove the manifold myself and have a look, i find it hard to believe the plastic arms cant be removed and replaced.
The cooler and front shocks are not required to be replaced straight away, there is only a light misting round the connections, so that is better news.

If the engine is misfiring the EML will flash. What was the problem with yours PG?
Kenny is the car still withing the recommended service schedule, is so, you could ask them to pay 50% good will gesture.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

My issue is intermittent fault with Bank 2 Tumble flap position potentiometer. It's not misfiring at 7000rpm but feels like it because unlike the normal limiter where it hits it and then there is a marked drop off in revs this just keeps hitting 7000rpm and doesn't power off. The Tomy gun effect.

Sonny,
Its within the schedule but the dealers have informed me that one of the services was not carried out by Audi so I would'nt get any good will!!!!
That goes for the DRC also
Kenny
These are the fault codes
Fault ECU 18265
2 faults, MAF sensor 000257
System to rich at idle 008584
Do these make any sense to anyone?

I had the oil cooler and pipe replaced on mine 2 weeks ago. It was leaking oil. The pipe had corroded where it meets the oil cooler. Luckily I bought the car with an Audi used warranty, so it was covered.
I do not believe it has anything to do with the oil cooler service bulletin.
