There has been a lot of learning here in the last few months, but it is not mandatory for you to read the carbon threads, and yet you always gravitate to them. I have had my car for three years now and although im not a big poster have found this forum a great source of information, however recently it has become nothing more than a place where 'some' people have nothing better to do that slag off the rs4 and fellow owners.
Although I dont understand alot of the science in Arthurs post's he puts in alot of effort to put logic and reason into it where 'others' just seem to come back with comments I would expect from a cocky 12 year old.
I believe in the old saying 'if its not worth saying then shut the f**k up. ( maybe not so old but still!)
Happy rs4ing to all the Happy rs4ers out there and thankyou to all of those with positive input on this forum.

You really ought to read the original 420ps thread.hogster wrote: I have had my car for three years now and although im not a big poster have found this forum a great source of information, however recently it has become nothing more than a place where 'some' people have nothing better to do that slag off the rs4 and fellow owners.
.
You have noticed nearly all the disagreements are on Carbon, and have been well before I arrived on the scene. This subject ought to be on a different forum. I do agree it can feel negative, especially in this phase where we have conflicting data.
This debate is on other forums too....
why should he, or anyone have to explain themselves to you, just because you expect it?
some of learned, some have not...
but it seems if they don't agree with you, they have not...
why must you insult others...to elevate yourself?
there is no reason to leave, just check yourself, and let others be concerned about their own actions...
when I read your stuff I feel like this:

you have never answered one technical question, not a one...
you ignore those, and go after the messenger...

again
1) how does it <beep> timing? what mechanism? detonation, pre-ig, mis-fire?
2) how can the fuel NOT be mixed
1500 psi, atomized, velocity >1000 ft/sec >>>> air stream, thorough mixing...
> higher than it's vapor pressure, soon as injected, vaporizes immediately...like releasing water >212F under pressure >>> gas/vapor
piston speed > air speed (90 vs 70 ft/sec or so), actual a vacuum pump
shot into the stream as it passes the nozzle, mixes with entire charge...
compressed o 12.5:1 reducing any gradient differences by the same factor
3) two cars recently cleaned, both modded
8.4 or so corrected, the same as all uncleaned, unmodded cars
and let's add, how does Audi get independant certification (EC and SAE) for 420 HP if the engine does not produce it? they pay someone off? the tsting agency is wrong? Audi rigs the test?
Excelent, we have the discussion back on the correct thread. Those who feel uncomfortable with it will choose to ignore this thread.ArthurPE wrote:

I have no doubt the engine probably produced 420ps at the outset, but the discussion is what goes on afterwards.
Some are affected, some are not. How do you explain that?
Will the RS5 be less affected? If so why?
The RS5 I understand is not the same engine that is in the RS4 B7 it is the V10 with two cylinders lopped off.

with time (up to 50k miles or so) it gradually produces more power, may 5 HP, then levels off, then drops off slowly at 100k miles, obviously dependent on the maintenance regime...
none are affected...it is always something else, usually flaps or a vacuum leak...deposits can't and don't cost power, at least measureable...
RS5 will have the same deposits, and will not lose power...
same as the RS4 or any DI engine...

Posted by 2ManyToys on another thread.2Manytoys wrote: My point is that in practice, for what ever reason, the results are very different. There is something that you are missing in your calculation. If it was that easy to get 100hp per litre out of a NA car, why arn't all manufactures doing it.
Audi was competing with other German manufacturers in the quest for 100ps per litre (996 GT3), the 1st time they had achieved this in a NA engine.
BMW had achieved 107 with the E46 M3 & 112.5 with the CSL but the M5/M6 were at 100ps per litre. So a good benchmark.
So Audi pushed the envelope as far as they could - that's normal. As they have done with the RS5 at 450ps = 107 ps per litre.
But am I right in thinking the Porsche, the BMW & the Audi engines are different technology? The last one being DFI?
actually the V10 is the V8 with 2 cylinders addedalmoRS wrote:The RS5 I understand is not the same engine that is in the RS4 B7 it is the V10 with two cylinders lopped off.
same v angle
same exact, exact, displacement/cylinder
same exact bore and stroke
same valve angle and dimensions...
same chain drive and auxillaries
the Audi V10 is not the same as the Lambo V10

The 5.2 V10 FSI will be developed directly from this V8 engine.

the RS4 V8 and the RS5 are identical save intake and ecu
