Average MPG per single trip?

Post by sckrs4 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 10:47 pm

Hi Guys
just curious what's your average mpg during your daily commute? (gentle driving). Not a easy thing to go slow and keep rev counter under 3k!!

with S button off :(
Mine m40 mornings 23.9mpg
evenings same trip 25mpg

approx 30 miles each way.

I'm seeing between 16-19mpg.
Only live 3 miles from work so I'm lucky if I see 4th gear with the volume of traffic.

Costs me a visit to Tescos forecourt once a week for a full tank.
On the R6 I have to fill up halfway through the week, tank is only 1/4 size of the car's but the journey into the office is twice as much fun!

I've never driven for fuel economy so these are average drives with (unavoidable :D ) bursts of hard acceleration:

London traffic - 16 mpg. 17 if less congested.

Motorway 70-80 (stuck behind other traffic) around 24 mpg.

Hard driving without congestion around 16 mpg.

Local Greater London driving approx 17.5.

I picked up my RS4 on Tuesday evening...trip home at motorway speeds
avg 22.8mpg
1st commute to work (45 miles each way) 24.1mpg...however the 1st 8 miles it showed 14.6mpg, after 30 miles 21mpg. then the 50mph average speed camera kick in.
frustrating drive home with old peeps looking at the countryside in the sunshine...27.4mpg ! and under 40 mph

Does the S button have an influence on MPG?

anyway a long way from the 42mpg I averaged over the last 3.5 years in my E92 335D

13 miles each way, mix of quick blasts and slow moving traffic - getting 20 - 21 mpg.

total 12 miles per year

Petrol at average mpg 16.5 per every trip, you will need 4 new tyre and 8 pads at the front :(
£6800

average mpg at 12 mpg every trip not recommeded you might lose the license !
Over 7k

average 23.mpg every trip £4800

the beauty of the car is it's brutal but nimble and flexible for all driving conditions!

think my average over several thousand miles is 22.5 mpg (mix of town and motorway miles)

on a long run on the motorway its about 25-26 mpg with climate on / heated seats on and average 80 ish.

on an average tank I dont bother looking anymore, but driving around town and a little bit of motorway seem to get between 280-290 miles per tank then the fuel filler light comes on, and i only seem to be able to get in 57 litres so prob got about 6 litres in reserve. If I really squeeze the tank, say get about 310 miles outta the tank around town it takes about 60+ litres.

Depending on the traffic levels, and weather conditions, with my pleasant commute over the moors, and across Sheffield I get the following:

Going to work
Best: 31mpg!!!!
Average 28mpg
Worst 22 mpg

Home from work:
Best: 22mpg
Average: 20mpg
Worst: 16mpg

However, on short runs between sites durign the day, the ave mpg displayed is often in single digits :(
