Selling it!

Post by RS04OUR » Sun Apr 18, 2010 4:22 pm

So, I went to see Audi re my warranty and fell for an S3 Stronic, I loves auto's and I'm finding the manual a little had work for my daily driver.

Is £23 a piss take for mine or should I take their money and run?

Mines a 2006 done 58k, mint with tech pack and bluetooth prep and one previous ower.

Just had discs pads, tyres and new oil cooler and drives spot on - no dings or paint ever!

take a couple of days to mull it over... 23 sounds a little under scope to be honest, but is that what you think it is worth is more the point.. good luck with your decision fella..

what's the out the door price for the S3?
can't comment on the RS4 value
but in any transaction like this you get the short end
I agree with scaghead, give it a few days for the infatuation to wear off, you went looking for a warranty, not a car

uv not had it long have you?

Tbh, i cnt see audi retailing a 60k car for more than, what £27k?....so i think £23k from Audi is about fair, give or take

You'd b better selling privately, but may be difficult shifting a high miler quickly with no warranty, people get nervous and like the fall back of a warranty....

Cant believe your thinking of selling mate, but 23grand is IMO is slightly low but not too low, also depends on the cost of the S3?
Good luck,
Peter

need this info:
what did you pay for the RS4 (inc taxes)?
how long have you owned it?
how much have you put into it (maint/mods/etc)?
how much is the S3 (inc taxes)
how many miles do you avg/month?

Having owned an 8L S3 (chipped to 265bhp), then 2 B6 S4s and now a B7 RS4 my 6p worth is that the 8P S3 would have to be "chalk and cheese" compared to the 8L for me to even consider swapping my RS4 for an S3.

Wait for the infatuation to waer off - then go drive your RS4 and realise that the S3 won't have the V8 rumble, it will just have the turbo-charged I4 "bland" sound.

IMHO an I3 engine has loads more character then an I4, especially a turbo one.

They've got a 56k miler at Manchester Audi for just under 28grand on a 56 plate- i was having a little look at it the other day. It is most certainly not mint!!
I would say yours would be that much or more, so sounds like a bit of a piss take in my limited experience. BUT if I was buying I would want the Audi warranty which would push me away from a private sale, so I guess you will have your hat nailed on to a certain extent. Don't be hasty though.

I know you have been concerned about the warranty for a while.

If the RS4 warranty cost had been, say £ 1,000, would you have just renewed and not considered the S3 not withstanding you are tiring of the manual gearbox?

Surely it depends on what is in the deal and how much margin they have in the S3?

looks like you've had the car for <2 months
I'm guessing you paid 30k for it and the S3 will be about the same...not including what you've put into it, maint, etc.
so the numbers:
keep the RS4 and be out 30k
buy the S3 and be out 30k + (30 - 23)k ~ 37k...

this seems like a no brainer?

the RS4 has already taken the big depreciation hit...
as soon as you drive the S3 off the lot, another 5k loss or so...

so 1 month from now:
S3 spent 37k and have a car worth 25k
RS4 spent 30k and have a car worth 25k (at least private sale)

Thanks guys,

The two biggest problems I've had are the Warranty issue that I've fixed and the gearbox, I just dont like manual 'boxes I bought this RS4 with my heart to replace a number of troublesome TDV8 Range rovers for some fun which it is but as a daily driver it's just a little painful.

On the horizon is a Lambo e-gear that Lambo Stockport have been searching for for sometime now so fun driving is still in the picture!

I just need and want a car with auto box really and I liked the loan A3 sportback I had last week hence the S3 - thoughts?
