Interior LED upgrade / Number Plate LED upgrade

Post by B7RSX » Sun Apr 04, 2010 3:02 pm

Was wondering...

I had an 07 S3 and was able to upgrade all interior lights to LED... footwell lights, puddle lights, map reading lights even the sun visor lights.

Awesome upgrades and look so much more dated then the normal light.

On the S3 i was even able to change the rear number plate lights to LEDs... which looked awesome! Albeit couple of resistors for them.

Saying this i want to upgrade all the lights for my RS now.. esp the number plate ones as they will look fab!

Has anyone done these upgrades already to their RS?

Hey B7RSX

Yeah the LED upgrades r really awesome. I have ordered my interior LED upgrades from Tunerdomes, they actually have sets per car, so its easy to order, etc. I have already changed my licence plate bulbs to LEDs but unfortunately they give a bulb out warning, when i checked Tunerdomes website for the licence plate i saw this "*Special Option - A4 Color Display Dash. Sorry all you Special People. We're working on it! " oh dear, i guess we special, haha. But i do not mind the warning, cause the LED is awesome.
I will update you once i have received my interior package.

Cheers

Hey AxiomX
Great stuff.
What LED upgrades are you going to do.. the footwell lights, puddle lights, map reading??

Yeah with regards to the bulb out warning i had that on my old S3 but wrapping a small resistor around the connecters... the warning light went out! So what i think il have to do is an experiment with few resistors and will let you know... VAST improvement though never the less!

Post few pics if you can show the rest of the guys how they look... its a recommended small cheap mod.

I have done the '6, every light apart from front main and dipped beam. Some needed resistors and some were okay without. Well worth the effort in my opinion.

@ B7RSX, i am goin to do all interior lights, from map lights, main console, glove box, boot and door lights.

Yeah i am a bit worried about the resistors for now, as my car is still under motorplan and they r quite strict on certain things, blah blah here in SA.

Yeah will post pics once the upgrade is done.

@ rfkflyer, great write up, thx.

Thanks Rjkflyer for the excellent write up.... But me being me that looks way too fiddly for me to even attempt. With the S3 it was alot easier the resistors just wrapped around the metal connectors where the bulbs sat.

Tartan Rob which bulbs did you end up replacing and where the resistors needed?

AxinomX keep us updated with how you get on and post pics when done.
Cheers

I got all my bulbs from UltraLEDS and the rears needed resistors. Inside ones are fine as are the number plate ones from memory. Front sides were okay too.

BTW UltraLEDS household bulbs are awesome. I cut my kitchen usage from 750watt down to about 52watt with the same level of brightness....
