Alternative Warranty.

Post by STEALTH » Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:03 pm

Hi guys,
Thought this might be of interest to some of you. I've just taken out
12 months extended warranty with WarrantyDirect for £1000. At first they
said weren't interested because in the past they have always lost money
paying out on DRC issues. Having said mine had already been replaced
they were quite happy to insure at what I thought was a good price compared with Audi's alternative.
Anyway if any body wants the direct number of the guy I dealt with then pm me and I'll give you his details.

That's a good saving of £665. Did you compare the cover provided, and was it the same? :)

Did you consider WarrantyWise STEALTH? I had a run-in with Warranty Direct when they didn't make the hourly reimbursement rate clear. A standard £55ph doesn't go far these days! What hourly rate did you get for your £1k?

Well that's a blatant Lie from WD, all cars are covered by a DRC 5 year manufacture warranty, and correct me if im wrong, but there should be no RS4's that are 5 years old. trying to pull the wool over your eyes there, or unless the dealers in the past have riped WD off and have charged them for the DRC work.

I used them when I had a Noble which needed a new manifold and turbo (+other bits). Their "assessor" inspected the car and they capped the hourly labour rate to something like £65/hour as I only wanted to use a Noble specialist. In the end, they paid about £1500 when the total cost of the work was over £2k. I guess I got back more than I paid for the warranty, but you do need to be careful with the terms. Audi at least would not put such caps on labour.

Sonny, I'm only saying thats their reason for not not initially wanting to do the warranty, maybe
they have been ripped off like you say,but at the end of the day i felt quite satisfied at the cost
of the cover. I dont mind admitting it probably is not as comprehensive as the audi one on the smaller components but as all the major and expensive parts are covered then thats the peace of mind that i was looking for. Only time will tell.

I will seriously consider one of these 3rd party warranties when my current Audi extended one expires in june. Quick look at warranty wise and the quote is fairly competitive, if you take out one longer than a year. Around £750 odd per year (depending on options selected) for 3 years. That includes a £100 labour rate and coverage up to £5000 per claim with excess of £50.
Didn't play around with the options and didn't read the small print but if something was to go wrong then a quick call to Quentin Wilson would sort things out surely!?
:P

worth thinking about when the time comes.
Only 1 more year of DRC coverage for me and im still on the original set!

Stealth.

Give us the low down on the niggly little details regarding the warranty please... i.e what they cover, how to claim etc etc.

I've had a quote from WarrantyWise but have yet to look at the finer details regarding what they cover but for me warranty from Audi is out the question!!
