RSN-E Niggles Fixed!

Post by northernpar » Sat Feb 13, 2010 12:17 pm

Once of the most annoying bug bears of the RNS-E system was the fact that when playing music from the SD card in shuffle mode if you wanted to skip a track it would turn the shuffle off. Very Annoying :x

Now, after a 2008 SatNav DVD software update bug fully fixed (along with a few others that I'm sure I don't know about!) :D

Just got to get a couple of stone chips sorted out (Audi touch-up kit arrived today) so I guess I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the weekend.

The Mix bug has been widely reported as having been fixed in the 0650 RNS-E software.

Do a search and find the link to all the firmware downloads, download sw6650, burn it to a disc then insert into the RNS-E.

Job done:)

It's pretty straighforward. I had the 2007 satnav DVD installed which had the 0500 software. Bought the 2008 DVD from a seller on eBay for £59.99. He did offer a 2009 DVD for £89.99 but as I wasn't too fussed about the newer maps stuck with the 2008. Bought it from the seller s4festore although noticed his price has now gone up to £64.99 (i guess that's supply and demand for you). Brilliant service ordered and paid one day got it the next.

Once you get the DVD eject the old one stick the new one in and sit back and wait. A software update screen will appear for a few minutes along with a progress bar once that has done the system will reboot but will then complete the software upgrade. Mine switched off and needed to be switched back on at some point but I think that this was at the end of the process. Pretty much sat back and let it do its thing with no problems. If TMC was disabled on yours previously i think from reading elsewhere on the forum that the new software revisions will enable this also but could be completely wrong on that one.

Although £60-ish sounds like a lot to fix what is a small problem this was my biggest bugbear with the car on a day to day basis as the iPod connnectivity is pants and want as a minimum to see/select what I want to listen to. Don't have a problem burning SD cards but having to reset the shuffle everytime you forward a track was becoming a real pain in the ass.

As pippyrips has pointed out there is another option although personally i couldn't be arsed and chose the simple (read lazy!) option.
